Music you listen to while playing

i just gave some of those a listen (quarkspace and secret saucer). i see the appeal during a civ game. they arent the same, but Monster Magnet has one track called Tab. it's 32 minutes long and 99% instrumental. their early albums had some good psychedelic rock but most had lyrics. but their instrumentals are pretty awesome too. i listen to it still fairly often.

i also listen to Akira (anime) soundtrack sometimes while playing civ.

Yeah, I do like Monster Magnet. Superjudge is a really great album, and I've listened to Tab quite a few times. Kyuss is another one of my favorites. I'm actually a huge fan of stoner rock but during the Civ sessions I just prefer a little more ambiance.

Voices - Vangelis

Heh, I went full nerdtard in one of my games as the Spanish. I started listening to the soundtrack of 1492: Conquest of Paradise by Vangelis when I discovered the new world on a terra map with my conquistadors and began conquering it. While the movie definitely has its flaws, historical inaccuracy and modern political correctness of the time period being two glaring examples, I still like the movie and have always loved Vangelis' work from Blade Runner to the mediocre film Alexander. You can even hear some of 1492's soundtrack in more recent movies such as Michael Mann's 2004 Collateral.

I'm not completely fond of the opera main theme in Gods & Kings. I replaced it with the vanilla theme, just swapping the files.
[snip]

The opera theme in Gods & Kings is absolutely beautiful, i don't mind taking a while to set up my games just so i can listen to it. i want it on my mp3 player! Baba Yetu from civ4 is completely awesome too, have that one on my mp3 player.

A Pandora station with John 5, Petrucci, Satriani, Vai & Jeff Loomis as artists. All moods are presented. I play Immortal Domination, works perfectly.

Edit: Shout out to the Vangelis users. Good call.

I listen to the Les Miserables 25th anniversary soundtrack; skip to the battle scenes when there's a war, one day more when I'm about to attack another civ. It makes everything so much more epic.

I just do in-game and go Queen on Youtube when I'm bored of the base soundtrack.

Don't Stop Me Now is a good one for peacetime, We Are the Champions is my postwar favourite, and War is just the next few over and over again:

I Want it All (duh)
Another One Bites the Dust (also duh)
We Will Rock You (Triple duh)

Anything else is just when I'm done with Don't Stop Me Now.

I was playing a newish game last night when Germany decided they wanted one of my cities that was close to their borders. Caught me off guard, and I had to pull my axmen out of the city before they took it (they stole Boston!) After I regrouped and pulled in some reinforcements, I was about to start my plan to take the city back (and then some) when " Crush 'Em (Megadeath) came on. Got super pumped and blazed a path of 'Murican justice into the heartland of Germany.:)

The opera theme in G&K is indeed beautiful and Im going to be sad to see it go when we get Brave New World.

Baba Yetu on the other hand.... God I hated that tune so much! I wouldn't even put the sound on until I got past it. Was so glad when Warlords came out! :D

I really hate european music. asian music isn't good too but better than europeans. but Middle Eastern music rocks. Yalel, Jallaman, Gawazi, Sultan of the Hearts etc.

You could always swap out the mp3 file if you don't like the Brave New World theme, the theme from vanilla civ5 didn't really evoke any emotion for me so i swapped it for Baba Yetu until G&K came out.
