What kind of moody music do you listen too while playing CivIV.

Metallica, Garage Days Inc. in general, especially while on a pillage campaign
:goodjob:
Early Judas Priest and Iron Maiden for War
:goodjob:
Anything KISS for building and the bonus :)
Meh...
Pantera and Red Hot Chili for Overseas domination
:goodjob:
Ronnie James Dio and Ozzy as filler for most other occasions
:goodjob:
with a little U2 and some 80's hair bands to boot.

I would add: Rush, Soundgarden, Black Sabbath, Cream, Jethro Tull (Don't tell Hetfield I said that), Queen, Dire Straits, The Smashing Pumpkins, Led Zeppelin, Michael Schenker, Steve Vai and Iron Maiden to your (al)most excellent list. :)

Lemon - Your musical taste makes me wish I was female ;) :D (and attractive, but that would be a...umm...unlikely)

I love the somewhat obscure reference to bizarre Tull grammy win over Metallica. Big Tull fan and I've seen them in concert multiple times. Definitely had my Metallica years as well.

An interesting band that might work for Civ for the medieval-ish era is a mix of Steeleye Span

LOL, now here is the problem, once I get started down a road I will pursue it to the end! Now I'll spend most of my night reconfiguring playlists instead of playing BtS!
Where you have Rush, you must go to Triumph
Queen, Zep, and Sabbath are masters unto their own right. Schenker and Vai were those rare breeds that made those around them stars.
Gonna have to throw on some Molly Hatchet, Scorpions, Pumpkins, and Stone Temple to just make it through.

Do I smell a BAT Extra, soundtrack update maybe? For those of us who still appreciate decibles that rival our Blood Pressure?

For us that disable the in-game music and listen to "somewhat-civ-related" "moody" background music. What do you listen too?

Hmm. "Somewhat civ-related". I'm not entirely sure if that applies to what I listen to. I just listen to regular music! Or occasionally play a classical compilation (including Civ music, but with added Beethoven, Chopin and more). Pendulum's music can have quite a nice feel to it when playing Civ. And Kraftwerk (and perhaps a little Daft Punk) can too. IDK why, but they do seem to work for getting you in the mood to go to war and raze a few cities.

(including Civ music, but with added Beethoven, Chopin and more).

Love me some Chopin. Ridiculous what that guy could make you feel with just a piano.

I split my Civvin music between classical and rock. A lot of rock already mentioned (Metallica, AiC, Soundgarden, STP, Anthrax etc etc). I don't have any particular mood music that I play with Civ at the moment, but since its been referred to a couple times in this thread already, I have to mention ...And Justice for All (the album Metallica got stiffed on for the grammy).

It was THE album I listened to when playing Civ 1. It was a few years past the album's release (92 93 or something, when Civ was about a year old), but I was just getting into Metallica at the time and that was and is my favorite. Some of my fondest memories of Civ 1 are of having modern wars while playing my ...And Justice tape over and over. It just happened to be particularly fitting, seeing as how the whole theme of the album is nuclear annihilation, war and the like.

in my experience, a civ game is something that i plunge into like a deep sleep
and then wake up a few hours later as if from a dream
so i like music that can carry me away and keep me totally disengaged from the outside world.
now usually im stoned out of my mind for marathon civ sessions so any music thats good to trip to is fine with me.
Personally I like rock music but for civ i usually dont listen to anything very heavy (with some exceptions). Usually i go for something softer or concept albums that repeat musical themes every so often. I like albums and songs that have noticable changes in tempo because they can be relied upon to occasionally sync up with whatever is going on ingame without me having to set that up intentionally.
I've been listening to jazz and blues music for the past year and found it really enjoyable, but for some reason I can't really get into it during civ. I dont know does anyone else feel that jazz doesn't work? Maybe feels differently?
As for classical, I'm only just wetting my feet in that genre right now, but so far so good with civ.

Goodness lymond. :crazyeye:

Physical beauty amounts to only about 25% of what I find attractive in a woman. I'm more interested in what she has going on upstairs in her head (read intellect), how honest and genuine she is, and her moral compass. The kind of woman I dislike the most is the attractive, vain, narcissistic idiot that thinks she's better than everyone else, and enjoys making people feel small and inadequate because of it.

None of my previous GF's have been outstanding looking by the "guy scale". I prefer the girl next door type, above all. That scale is a little skewed anyway. I have a very honest friend that gave me an 8.5, but only gave a 6 to my partner. WTH? I think he had it backwards. It is definitely the other way around, as far as I'm concerned. She is much more beautiful than I am in every way.

Do I smell a BAT Extra, soundtrack update maybe? For those of us who still appreciate decibles that rival our Blood Pressure?
Given the music industry's proclivity for litigation vs. anything that moves, I don't see that happening.

I don't mind having a lawyer all over me, but she should be all over me for other reasons.

The best off topic to on topic arc....EVER!:goodjob:

And I must compliment Lemon and Bloodston on thier overall musical tastes, toss Tool and Helmet into the mix and its masterful for Rock genre.

Lemon is a 9 at least!

But like all women she probably only gets a 3 first thing in the morning ;)

The fact that LM is a female who both plays and posts about Civ makes her a 10, sight unseen. (The whole "into chicks" thing is just icing on the cake. ;) )

I rather like Civ IV's music for all the eras, with the exception of some of the modern tracks; I have a custom music folder I switch over to in the modern era that has the OST modern era tracks I like combined with some other modern music with a similar feel: Gershwin's Rhapsody in Blue and An American in Paris, Peter Gabriel's Zaar (from the Last Temptation of Christ soundtrack), and more.

One thing I'd really like is if the music in Civ IV changed when you win (not during the victory movie--afterward, when you're checking your score and stats). It just seems anti-climactic when I win and instead of some rousing theme, I still hear the same moody, subdued piece I was listening to before it happened.

Are you really calling women chicks here?

You need some 70s pants on your avatar

Couldn't be arsed photoshopping it to Sisiutil Night Fever ;)

That's a great movie, but unfortunately I no longer fit into my 3-piece white disco suit. Then again, I don't think John Travolta can, either.

Heck, women use the word "chick" now. Now "bird" might be a different story, you Brit.

You know, Sisituil brought up something I've wondered about but never bothered with, is whether you can change the music files. I'm sure it can be done, but I just don't know how to do it in such a way to make it work in game for each era. I like the early and mid era music but that the late/modern era music is horrid. (Of course, I'm so good I rarely reach these eras )

(@Lemon - You do know men criticize each others looks as a joke while women do so for affect. By the way, I'm sure you are MUCH better looking than you give yourself credit for - heck, Sela is a 10 in my book - but you are definitely a 10 on the coolness scale) ....whatya think of Anne on SNL? show was kinda weak but, man, her Garland was amazing...wow!

I don't think this rhyme very well.
Also, I know I'm playing with fire here, that music is several decades old.

There is a way to do this, but it's complicated. You can be forgiven for thinking that all you need to do is drop your MP3 files into the appropriate folders, but if you've ever tried that you've noticed that it doesn't work. You actually need to edit the XML files to insert each music file's information so that it will play during the appropriate era. I think there was a tool around here that would modify the XML for you, but I seem to recall trying it and finding it overly complicated to use.

Yeah, I figured it was more than that so I never attempted it. I could probably handle making the changes, but I would just need to know where those changes need to be made.

Also, I know I'm playing with fire here, that music is several decades old.

:crazyeye: i'm not even going to respond

Tatran we need to take you to school...old school!! That decades old music kicksass. I am particularly partial to Led Zeppelin and Iron Maiden out of the list of Lemon. How old are you? If you are under 22, I think we can forgive your misguided view, although some re-education on the subject of rockin music seems to be in order.

Your lesson plan is to seek out Zeppelin's second anbd fifth albums "2" and "Houses of the Holy" respectively. Listen to them and appreciate them. Next week's lesson will be supplied as seen fit by Lemon, Bloodstone or myself.:D

As far as calling Lemon old...I am not touching that one!!!;)

Zeppelin, Sabbath (with Ozzy), Bonn Scott's AC/DC, and a little Jimi (post woodstock) are must haves for the ancient era.

I mix a lot of Maiden, Priest, Metallica, KISS, and Megadeath strictly LIVE cuts when it's time to bring out a stack o'doom and cause some pain.

I was thinking about this Thread today as I mixed some playlists and discovered another line of music to delve into. Those monumental Soundtracks. Gonna have to try the Star Wars Theme out on a march into Zululand, or The Opening of Return of the King as I beeline for Monty's Capital.

Ski, I do believe by being smart enough to dance around the question of a ladies age, just proves you are old and wise. Plus we have the battle scars to prove it!

Awww, shucks... Thanks.

ER shift + stupid PVR = no joy in Lemonville on Sunday. :(

So am I. :p

Next week's lesson will be supplied as seen fit by Lemon, Bloodstone or myself.:D
I'll start. Here are a few discs from my "Must Listen" list:

1. John Mayall - Blues Breakers, with Eric Clapton.
2. The Who - Who's Next.
3. Queen - Sheer Heart Attack. (The disc, not the song.)
4. John Lee Hooker - The Healer
5. King Crimson - Beat
6. Dire Straits - Love Over Gold
7. Yes - Fragile
8. GTR - GTR (Steve Howe and Steve Hackett in a very interesting fusion of sorts.)
9. Genesis - Abacab.
10. Rush - Permanent Waves.

Just a wee little smattering of different things. Feel free to add in some Bonnie Raitt, Jeff Beck, STP, Alice in Chains, Audioslave, Jimi Hendrix, Veruca Salt, The Vapors (if you can find them), and maybe some Def Leppard if you're feeling the need for something really over-produced and commercial. ;)

Also, I know I'm playing with fire here, that music is several decades old.

And your point is what? The music that I prefer is several centuries old. (I recall hearing it when the music you refer to came out. I did not like it then and I don't like it now. People's music preferences vary, that is part of what makes things fun.)
