What kind of moody music do you listen too while playing CivIV.

Man, I was gonna mention King Crimson, LM. Perfect for CIV

I wore out my original Veruca Salt disc (their first album) - literally in my car's system 2 years straight. Most here probably don't know this band. I'd add some Throwing Muses in that vein.

okay, I'll add some of mine:

1) Rush - A Farewell to Kings
2) Uriah Heep - Sweet Freedom (album)
3) Select mix of Belle & Sebestian
4) Traffic - non-jazzy mix
5) Pretty much any Cream + Blind Faith: "Sea of Joy" and "Do What You Like"
6) Camper Van Beethoven - Key Lime Pie
7) Steeleye Span songs: "The Blacksmith" (faster version), "Long Lankin", "Gaudette", "Lovely On the Water", "Cam Ye O'er Frae France"
8) A Perfect Circle - Nom de Mers
9) Led Zeppelin - "Achilles Last Stand" and "Tea For One"
10) Jethro Tull - had to mention them again
11) The Cult - Love

Star Wars and Return of the King Music eh?

The Imperial March from Star Wars would be good on your final Workd Domination push with multi-SOD's.

I hope we haven't alienated Tartan. I was of course joking and respect his musical taste.

Led Zeppelin: Black Dog Rock n Roll, Travelin Riverside Blues, Carouselambra, and Kashmir are some of my fav's I especilly like Kashmir when sending out Great Spies and stealing techs, fo some reason that speaks to me.

Also add to the list some more modern kickass
Metallica: Garage Inc and Death Magnetic albums
Rush's newest album is quite good
Alice in Chains: Dirt album
Tool: Lateralus album is a pinnacle of musical acheivement this century. It stands in the ranks of Pink Floyd's The Wall, The Beatles' White Album and Zeppelin's "Zoso" as musical masterpieces.

For all you Hendrix-philes check out "Blues" album, its much more mellow than something like "South Saturn Delta", but so friggin good

Yes! :goodjob:

9 and 11 are spot on! Presence was a fantastic album.

Some Steve Winwood, or Peter Gabriel solo work for those semi-relaxing times between wars, too. My collection goes from the 60's to now, and I have different music folders depending on my mood.

If you're a Crimson fan, both Adrian Belew and Robert Fripp have done some interesting solo work ("Twang Bar King" and "I Advance Masked" respectively), and Belew's work with the Talking Heads was rather inspired, IMHO, though he did have to do things within the limits of TH's established sound, and David Byrne's vision. Rick Wakeman did a couple of interesting albums in the late 70's, post Yes.

Some good instrumental music has come from Kraftwerk and Tangerine Dream. One group that I really enjoy for civvin' is Emerson, Lake and Palmer. A lot of it is instrumental, and it serves as a wonderful backdrop to the game.

For those taking notes, let's not forget Robert Johnson, and the sometimes erratic Deep Purple. :)

And Tatran, I completely agree with your choice of classical music with Civ. It definitely adds a bit of majesty to the game. I have a number of Mozart, Bach, and Beethoven discs myself. ;)

If you like Tangerine Dream and Kraftwerk you should try some Ozric Tentacles.

EDIT: Best Kraftwerk cover ever:

Winwood and Gabriel big pluses for the mix. Need some David Bowie, Early Aerosmith, Ronnie James Dio, to tie in.

I can't resist. :D

Some of the fruit fly club will probably have a strong need to start lecturing again :mischief:,
but not before I've a word with Paradigm about his rape version of das Modell.
:vomit:

I like the Kraftwerk version too.

Big Black have some great tunes though.

Why am I starting to feel like a pinata?

Wow. Y'all listen to some old music. This music went out of style way before I was born. Not that I'm like 14 or something (I left my teens a while ago... :() I usually just turn the in-game music down and listen to the 90's R&B radio or music that I burned on CD.

If we blindfold ourselves and hit you with a stick, you break open and candy falls out?
I believe the metaphor LM is thinking of ends at the "being hit with a stick" part.

Music on CD!?! And radio!?! Wow, u really r old!

Also in response to someone else above, King Crimson is fine and good but Talking Heads are definitely the better band (agree that adding Belew to their line-up was an improvement, but TK recorded a few amazing albums b4 and after his involvement).

Unthkinable. I play a game with or without its native music that's matched to the gameplay... or I turn off my computer, sit down and listen to music.
