In no particular order, here are some things I'm hoping for in Civilization V:

1. Concept of Unit Morale. In SM's Gettysburgh, this was a great game mechanic.

2. Flanking. With the hex design, it would be kind of cool if there were significant penalties for units that are partially surrounded (or fully surrounded).

3. Overseas Supply Lines. Basically, something akin to railroads/roads but over water. Nothing we have to monkey with per turn (i.e. can be abstracted) but lets players establish shipping lanes of some kind.

4. Strategic People. Similar to "Great People" in Civ IV, your choice of civilization would make available at different times special people from that civilization that had specific abilities. Even George Washington needed Franklin, Adams, Jefferson and Hamilton. :)

5. Global Markets. Ability to put resources on an open market rather than just trading them.

Some of this may already be in the plans but if not, they're things I'm hoping for anyway. :)

Overseas supply lines and overseas shipping lanes would be a good addition. :)

I kind of enjoyed Civ3's great leader/army function. Revolution had the army feature as well but it was kind of watered down since you didn't have to have a leader to join units.

I really like the little trading caravans etc in Empire: Total War. I would like to see something like that, where I can block trade routes and see who's trading with who.
