My name is Legion - for we are many (new tv series, Legion)

This is an ok rendition of what Legion is as a Marvel comic character.

One amendment I'd make to his presentation, "Legion is an Omega level mutant" sells the character short. Each of Legion's over 2000 personalities is "an Omega level mutant", capable of manifesting within time and space to some nth degree of its variety.

If you're wondering what's happening in the vid Kyriakos linked, I can take a shot at it if someone asks. Otherwise, if there's little interest, I won't waste my time typing it out.

Legion is my favorite show right now. It's still too early to render a complete verdict, but it's not just better than most comic-to-tv shows, it's better than most shows, period.

I feel like Legion will go the way of Hannibal. Three seasons and cancellation, a show that's too artsy for the general public. A shame, but I'll take what we'll get.

You guys awoke my curiosity so watched the first chapter last night. Still wondering what was it all about. Only think clear for me is i am now in love with the evil psychiatrist.

Yes I am watching. All I can say is it's freakin' trippy. I'm not sure I actually like it but I can't stop watching. I don't consider it artzy more like being on an acid trip.

I thought the pilot was not very good, too confusing, but after that it's been must watch for me.

To the uninitiated, it has pretty much nothing to do with marvel universe and is unlike any other super hero movie except for the existence of mutants.

It gets a lot better thankfully.

I was ready to give up after 16 minutes. Then stopped at 25 minutes, out of a guess
Spoiler :
can he actually move stuff with his mind, and is repressing it, leading to hallucinations?
which seemed a bit too predictable and rendered the whole thing underwhelming. But i will keep watching to see if it is better/is not that at all :)

Well... it's hard to explain without spoiling it but if you read the comic books you probably sort of know. I don't read the comics but googled some info. Everyone understands legion- the name implies many in one host. It seems he has multiple personalities of some kind. From first episode he was being treated as a schizophrenic but the mutants who save him believe he isn't actually one and just a very powerful psychic and is being misdiagnosed.

mild spoiler:

Spoiler :

Both are wrong. David is a very powerful psychic but is also actually schizophrenic and multiple personalities control parts of his power so he doesn't know about his powers or isn't able to fully utilize them.

medium spoiler:
Spoiler :

some of the characters he talks to in the show aren't real, they are his personalities

BIG spoiler (through episode 6):
Spoiler :

His personalities are actually all manifestations of a consciousness that attached itself to his mind like a parasite to survive and control him and gain his powers. It represses David's memory and power to control him. The evil kid with the big head, lennie and the scary blob looking monster dude are all manifestations of this parasite. We don't yet know what it is.

From the comics as I understand it, when people die around Legion his sometimes absorbs their minds and gains their powers. It's yet to be explained if this happens in the show though and I suspect it doesn't.

Just keep watching. If anything the show does a really great job of ending on cliffhangers virtually every episode.

Last episode was really good. A huge reveal and well, now it ties clearly into the xmen universe, so I guess that aura of mystique (no pun intended, mystique is not in this show!) is kind of gone. But still a great show.

I agree, episode 7 was outstanding. One sequence in particular was the best thing I've seen on television in recent memory. It's not a plot spoiler, but it's an experience spoiler. If anything about this show piques your interest, you should watch it utterly ignorant of anything. Don't watch any promos or trailers, don't watch any "Next week on Legion" clips, don't read any reviews. In fact, if you haven't watched this show yet, leave this thread right now. :D To those considering taking the dive, I will say that "superhero fatigue" is no reason to avoid it. This is based on a Marvel Comics character, but it radically departs from the source material and from the genre.

Back to episode 7:

Spoiler :
The Bolero silent-movie sequence was just amazing. I've never really seen Aubrey Plaza in anything before, but she seems perfect for this role. She's got the sexy-and-scary thing down in a way that reminds me of Fairuza Balk from 20 years ago.

In fact, the whole cast is kind of perfect. Bill Irwin and Jean Smart are the only ones I was already familiar with. To me, this is one of the hallmarks of a great show, that it isn't a vehicle for one actor, even if one of them plays the "main" character.

I'm glad that I can't binge-watch this series. Each episode deserves its own space. I've rewatched almost all of them before the next one, and I may try to rewatch all 7 before the finale. I don't have cable, so I have to wait a few days after the show airs and watch it on the weekend. I should be able to watch all 7 again without cramming.

As for its ties to the X-Men movies, a wink and a nod to the fans was fine, but I hope it ends there. I'd like to see the series go its own way, and even a single cameo would open a Pandora's Box, imo. Marvel Netflix series and Agents of SHIELD have made a bit of a mess by so self-consciously tiptoeing around the movie properties they're supposed to be related to.

Also, I really have to go catch up with Fargo now.

Yes I agree, it's the most non superhero "superhero" show ever, and the pacing is just right that it needs to breathe between episodes. The artistic shots and moments go really well with the source material.

There's only been on negative for me so far and it came during episode 7:

Spoiler :
I didn't get how david pieced everything together so easily. Ok he could've assumed his parents were mutants and hid him, and he got some info from the monster that it had a beef with his father, but how did he plot out in perfect detail exactly what happened? The way he drew it out made it seem like oh yes it's so obvious they fought and the monster's essence floated around until it possessed me, that's clearly what happened. Seems like there's a logical gap there, how does he know his father beat the monster for example, he is just assuming. It seemed a little too convenient like ok we need to fill the audience in on some stuff now, we've been too abstract for too long

You only know that's what David thinks, you don't know whether or not that is the reality of the situation.

I really enjoyed the pilot but have felt the rest of the season sort of get away from me. It's very messy. The dream sequences are, without a better term to describe them, boring. It's incredibly discombobulated, which I reckon is the point, but it does sort of grate on my patience as a viewer. I'll finish the season and then reconvene on what I think. Right now I'm not sure if this is a show I'll be watching in the future.

Hmm that's complete opposite for me. I thought the pilot was messy and super confusing. The rest has been great.

There are two kinds of people, one digs the Lynchian style, the other finds it boring and overwrought.

I saw others call this show Lynch-like, but imo cinematography-wise it isn't really. And delusion-based plot isn't some invention of Lynch :D
That said, i am still on ep2, and can't say i like it. Watching cause it is said to get better, but already i dislike various stuff there (superheroes/mutants :o )

Hm, watched the season.

Despite my own (imho, don't bite :D ) view of it being not that positive, it was generally nice :) My main objection to this show is that it isn't intellectual at all (ie it is even less intellectual than shows like Westworld or Mr Robot, which have a somewhat similar underlying theme).
The shadow king isn't that scary, either. Gore is (imo) less than it should have been if they wanted to have an actual horror factor here.

All in all, this is essentially a superhero series, and i just dislike those :/ But i can see how people who aren't turned off by this genre can enjoy this :)
