I started a new game with BTS - prince( which I still have to master) - random leaders - random sea level - random temperature - continents - standard size - 8 civs.

I got Elizabeth. Great, now I can do good in my best, which is cultural victory. Right away I saw my ''great'' start. Look:

Nice no? Capital can be production city, and second city can be a great specialist city. Look at all the floodplain, look at all the gold...Ah, just great! But I soon saw I was alone with Augustus in this continent. I rushed him with swordmen as soon as I saw his first praetorian. I finished him and got my third cultural city; Rome. Which by the way, had Great Lighthouse and had a perfect position for Maoi Statues. I got also colussus later there.

I know, I know, isolated is bad for tech, but I figured out that with so many golds and foodplains, and being financial + philoshopic, I could keep up. Well, I could snatch one religion, lost islam by 3 turns and christianity by 5, and could build most of the wonders I wanted in time, so I figured out I was indeed keeping up...Until I saw this:

Isn't it very early for prince in BTS?!?! I am still 50 turns away from it! And I have no tech brokering on!!! Dang, what if all the other civilizations are togheter in other continent and they are buddies?

What should I do?? Is everything lost??? Should I beeline optics??

ps: I am a bad warmonger.

With tech brokering off, it doesn't sound that easy. One the other hand if it's one AI running amock such as Mansa or Ghandi they can be taken out.

Once you set yourself up to be isolated (not a bad idea to get rid of Agustus), best to beeline optics so you can find out what is out there (as opposed to teching theology and divine right). The I would tech to Astonomy, as you can get some good gold income.

Before you toss int eh towel I would at least get to optics.

One word: Joao. That's my guess :) A gargantuan colony empire with fast teching. Else... Gandhi (at Above poster Ghandi is wrong spelling :P Don't worry. We all do it).

Nitpickin, I know.

No offense, but playing Liz with so many golds and floodplains and you're still researching CS in 1250 AD is very slow.

I jumped CS to research other things. I got it now for the spread irrigation!

Now I got optics, and found boudica! She was almost my neighbor, but not quite hehe. She is VERY behind, possibly alone in her continent. But I don't think so because I found other continent, containing Isabella, Williem, Saladin(each of them found a religion of their own!), and by getting the map from Williem I saw that the Mongolians are in the same continent, but I didn't contact them yet! So only one more civ to go.

Looks like, even with different religions, those 3 are buddies, but only Williem(which is the one with liberalism by the way) is ahead of me. Isabella is far behind, Saladin is OK. But I got techs that even Williem don't have, which are the cultural techs and optics + paper. So the situation is not so bad, considering also the fact that I saw a Great general born in a Spanish city, so she, and possibly the other 2, is at war with the Mongols! Which is always good for me! :)

And also...I got around 200 points ahead of Isabella, 250 of Saladin and 300 of williem! :D

So not so bad after all, Williem simply beelined for liberalism and didn't tech much other techs that were not in the way hehe!

Time to go back there and show them who is the boss! :evil:

It was scary though! :)

I agree with the rest. Where did your techonolgy go? and liberalism in 1200 AD doesn't mean you can't win by culture easy... just get enough great artists...

It breaks my heart to see all those farmed floodplains.

Floodplains = Cottages!

I had cottages there, but I changed just recently because I am building the Global theater there! Specialist farm for life! :lol:

Oh, the French are in the same continent of Saladin and etc, so Boudica is alone on her continent! Poor warmonger, I am almost thiking in taking her over! :crazyeye:

SInce they are flood plains you are eventually going to limited by health, especially in the late game once you get oil/coal. Unless you plan to build none of the polluting buildings. Still, I have never replaced a cottage with a farm unless very late in the game when I trying to just up the population to get a UN win or domination.

Look at that city! Do you know how many specialists go there? Yes, I will take easy on health, but still, without happiness... :crazyeye:

Clearly - the question is why you thought that was a good idea?

I know, I know, I am too addicted to culture. :(

Well, I still don't get replacing existing floodplains cottages with farms to get the extra specialists. The lost commerce allows you run how many post emancipation specialists?? Your not going to be able to run that many engineers considering both a factory and industrial park will get you +8 unhealthiness. You'll need to run environmentalism, which loses you 1 trade route for all cities plus will make any founded corps financially difficult to run.

I'm not trying to get on your case, just some suggestions.

Biology -> national park.

This city never meant to be anything else than Great specialist(artist mainly) farm, so no unhealthiness buildings... Rome and London + other city are good enough for production!

Not to :deadhorse: but your losing the free specialist benefit of the national park. There are no forrests.

The only place with enough forests was the capitol or a crappy city. :(

And yes, I know that. That will be only against some unhealthiness. I guess I got a hot/cold map or somrthing in random temperature...

Arlborn, do you have a 4000 BC save? I would like to try it :D ;)
