My "perfect" start is ruined?!?!

Arlborn, do you have a 4000 BC save? I would like to try it :D ;)

I do, but it will only be accessible for me tomorrow! I can post it tomorrow yes. :)
But mind you, one gold near London got discovered during the game! Around the late period of the classical age or so! I don't know if you playing differently than me affects it or if it is supposed to happen from the start by a script or so!

The resources popping is not scripted: in this case, every worked mine has a possiblity of popping a resource per turn.

And I'll wait for the save. Having a comparison point is always nice...

BTW, 1240 AD, lib discovery and no contacts so far? Wierd.... Last time it happened something like this was in my LHC BTS II ( with Willem ) : Mansa beelined hard Lib, powered by a Oracle->MC-> Collosus move ( nice one for a AI ). He even bypassed CS ( I could see his research and it was quite a show )

Your capital should be almost completely cottaged. With 3 gold mines, your flood plain city should cottage, and you can GP farm elsewhere. Also, it shouldn't be unhappy if you have hereditary rule (or drama).

Here the save is for 4000 BC!

Now go and do 10(100?) times better than me! :crazyeye:
Don't humiliate so much though...

And in that picture the city was growing unhappiness cap because I changed the production for Global theater in the same turn... Now, was it probably better cottaged? Maybe, but I love to have 999 specialists ! :mischief:

And the capital is a bit farmed to use the mined hills for production...
The terrain of the rest of the continent is not really good by the way. Small continent full of desert and loads of ice+tundra south... But there is place for some decent cities hehe.

cultural victory should be won before biology ;). if you wanted to run specialists you should have made sure you got pyramids, or at least beeline for constitution (which you could have gotten with liberalism at prince with that start.) voiceofunreason (which also reads as Voice o' fun reason ) brings up a good point, why did you put off CS? what was your tech order? what kind of specialists were you running? what'd you use them for? also could you put up a better picture of your entire empire :D

No no, I don't want to win cultural so early! I could, with cultural slider, but then I would almost never see late era! :(
I prefer to not use much cultural slider and/or use it more only around assembly line, because I like to see what is going on in the world that late and maybe go for fun in a war before the game finishes :> Or get pwned for not building enough late game troops!

I shall put some pictures, but I can't atm!

Fact is, pre-biology a farm on a floodplain supports 1 specialist.
A cottage on a floodplain supports 0.5 specialists.
You are financial and a cottage already starts with 3 commerce and while developing (and getting the right civics/techs) all these cottages will essentially be gold-hills later.
0.5 specialists are minor compared to all this commerce.

There are exceptions from the rule (for example you have a slow growing town with lots of food-negative tiles)
I would add one more point: Financial + cities with lots of river tiles = cottages (a floodplain counts as river tile)

Arlborn, you could had said that you were using Solver's patch mod :(

Oh! My bad!

By the way, settle the small isle to your east early... And explore with a ship(sea ship I mean) north each 15 turns or so! :p

Just somethings I didn't do, that I could have done...heh...

I would definitely change somethings if I ever played this map again hehe.

Ah well, living, getting _________ed and learning. Not necessarily on this same order though!

I am also working on Prince and am trying to improve my game. I was wondering what everyone though of the city placement here? Would it have been better to try place cities on the coast? Esp. with finiancial? Just a question....

Also, you've researched Divine Right, which ain't a cheap tech rather than beelining Civil Service earlier and onto Liberalism.

You could probably have done with teching in a more efficient fashion, particularly as Lizzy, you want education, the universities and Oxfords ASAP.

I was going for cultural victory. Versailles + Islam seemed pretty good at the time. And I lost Islam because of 3 TURNS! !

And now that I am almost finishing the game, I see that another religion would have been great in this map(isolated)! I only got now a second(and third) religion when I invaded Boudica with redcoats(I am a bad warmonger, and I require a 'overpowered' UU to rush good) to get her capital, which is the Holy City of 2 religions!
But now if I want missionaries of those religions, I gotta change from free religion!! I don't think it is worthy, as I am going to get a cultural in like 30-50 turns anyway...
You think it is worthy? They are all getting destroyers + infantry, while I am stuck at redcoats + frigates, no way I want a war now because of religion! :S

i wouldnt do it :/. the amount of time and effort it would take to spread the religion, you'd probably be winning before you even built your first cathedral of that religion. you dont need more than 1-2 religions to win a cultural victory by 1800 on emperor (i should know i've done it twice on emperor, one with an isolated start where i quecha rushed frederick).

Khan declared war on me 6 turns before my victory. Bugger!

He has tanks(although he just researched it, and I will be surprised if there is any tank in this first stack(naval). He also have SAM infantry, Marines and artilliary! And he has like 5 battleships and 5 destroyers, while I have only like 4 destroyers! And in land, I only got redcoats, cannons and Machine gun!

Now I am happy that I decided to use 20% of science slider until I finished railroads...

Hell, it is almost like he decided to go to war with me because my second city hit legendary status! :badcomp:

Oh, why the ________ did I select no random seed and locked assets? :crazyeye:

< back to play >

I loved this game! :)
Close call, oh, so very close!
Living and learning :P

Here is the picture of the turn! Notice that Klubai Khan got a major city of me there, and while it was not one with legendary culture, it was beside 2 of my cultural cities! In very few turns he probably would have taken them! Look how many soldiers I had in London there! nah, I had some soldiers in other city, ready to move there, but if he brought his whole stack again, I would lose again! He has an insane number of artilliaries! Like 15 or so! So overpowered!
But I won, and had fun! :goodjob:
Thanks some people that gave me tips, specially about cottages and so, I will try to improve!
