I'm not taking a vacation in the normal sense of the term. By vacation I mean this specific thread. Since I have a staff that can objectively vet my games (as I do theirs), I can now compete in the Hall of Fame as a player and have someone judge my games independently just like everyone else.

So, for this thread and this thread alone I am not the guy in charge and won't be answering official questions.

What I will be doing here is keeping my peers up to date on my latest Civilization blunders and disasters.

Current Mapfinder settings:
Level: Demigod
Mapsize: Huge
Landmass: Pangaea, 60%, Warm, Wet, 5 billion.

All legally necessitated settings enabled.

Options-
RespawnAI: On
SGL's: On

AI's: Mongols (because I hate them-old story) and 14 nonIndustrious civs.

Me: Celts.

Strategy: Bathe in AI blood.

Are you going to milk this one? (Can I conclude this from 'respawn: on'? Seems not a likely setting when going for a fastest conquest...)
Yes, I do intend to milk, hence the climate settings and huge map. However, milking for score will be secondary to sheer fun, which is why I went with pangaea. Archipelago may have more tiles, but I hate the naval/transport logistics. It also means a lot less exploratory boats early on.

As far as the respawn goes, that's enabled so I can kill the Mongols more than once.

Isn't continents an option?
Much more land, and the landmasses are often quite large...
Yeah, but then I'd have to build more than two boats.

I really am focusing on fun for this one. I picked the Mongols as one AI because I hate their guts and have a rivalry with them dating back to my first game of CivI when they sacked my capitol before I could launch the SS. The rest of the AI were picked at random among the nonIndustrious civs.

Good to see you drop by, old friend! :goodjob: Any plans on coming back? Rumor has it there's an occasional update. ;)

Actually, I probably could do continents on just a few boats. Someone on the home landmass would likely have a town on the second I could demand. Sack an MGL for a Palace there and use the AI gift-transport.

Long time no play, ha? ;)
I can't get myself to do games "just for fun" anymore..
Fast domination? conquest? space? anything, just having a terget...

Please have fun for us both.
Here, I subscribe :mischief:

No target yet, it's too early to commit to milking. Actually at the moment I'm working on a Japanese/tiny/diplomatic. They're the last civilization not represented in the database, I can't ever remember doing a diplo win and it's been a while since I played a tiny map at all seriously.

The Japanese Tiny game got too boring to wait for wait for Diplomatic, so I just did Domination. If it clears the submission process, it'll be the only Japanese game in the database, and only Domination game on Warlord!

I didn't have to travel this past weekend for the first time in over a month, so I played some Civ. Submitted two games, Celts/Standard/Domination/Regent/810AD and Babylon/100k/Large/Chieftain/1375AD. I doubt either date is really impressive, if at all, as I was really just dinkering around to fill some slots.

On the other hand, it does mean I have all five map sizes accounted for in my HOF portfolio now! Not that there's an award for something like that or anything, but it was fun to do.

Well, the Quartermaster's Challenge is now public, so I was obviously referring to the Pentathlon. Sadly, I was mistaken. My Celts game was small, not standard, so I have to finish a Standard map for that award.

This weekend I'm working on Aztecs/Standard/Conquest/Emperor. Should I succeed, that will knock out the Conquest requirement for Machiavelli, the Standard mapsize for Pentathlon and be my fifth difficulty level moving me one closer to Regular Octathlon. I don't really care if the game is that great, a triple whammy is hard to pass up-especially since I have to take a break from Civ soon. :(

The lure of the triple whammy is very hard to pass up. My diplo series is over, now, while I look for some triple whammies of my own! :)

What came up ??
When I need a break from civ It's usually because of going mental from the inside, or have too much life stuff to do..
Lately it's almost always been the first option for me.. what's up doc?

:wavey: :love: :care:::::

Employment transfer, I'm moving to a different city. My computer won't be set up for a least a few days, and I'll likely be offline a week or so...and that's not factoring in time packing or unpacking.

Take your time, and it'll all work out..

Well, the Aztecs didn't quite fit my playstyle/taste for this mapsize and difficulty, so now Mapfinder is running with the Ottomans. I'm planning on using the Horsemen/Leonardo's/Sipahi route. Not sure when I'll get to it though, as the next GOTM looks very tempting.

Persia!

Scientific, industrious and the best offensive AA unit in the game, what more could you want in a civ?

This suprises me to hear this from you. Have you competed in GOTM before?
GOTM40 was the first one I ever finished and submitted, so I guess I'm still newb in that arena.

What makes a Monarch Mountain start "tempting"? Just curious?
The Mountain start is kind of nice, I think. You immediately get an extra radius of tile visibility without having to move, and that hill seems like a good spot to found the city. The reason the spot really appeals to me is that it seems ideal for 20k. Flood plain food, mountain/plain shields, a river, some trees to chop to rush temple/library/col/cath, etc and even a luxury to boot.

Are you going to do the COTM too? That's just about the only SP civ3 I still play and it would be fun to compete against you.... :)
