n0x-01 -- I Wonder...

I don't know where exactly Mao build his city but we could go for Music and rush a settler and expand south, and join the artist the moment the city is founded. I think building axes are not our main priority atm, since we got a few archers already. I much rather just use the whip on axes as a last resort and focus on our main goal for now.

Again I don't know where Mao settled but this looks like a very nice spot although somewhat bold to settle there:
mychoice5bw.jpg

With the artist joined we might be able to flip any city settling close.

I really think we should focus on expansion atm, since we just won't make it with just 3 cities. It's a good thing Mao is friendly with us though: he can function as a buffer :)

Good turnsets everyone, keep up the good work. Ow and if you see Alexander, just kick him in the nuts...

T0 400BC (520 turns left)-We are thin militarily, but I don't think
that the situation is too dire. Hatty does not have a religion yet,
anyone wanna bet she takes Conf., Christ., or Taoism? I like the
research set to Music (due in 22). Mao took my gems/ivory site and
Khan took that iron site to the south of us. I bet a city placed
between them and then culture bombed might flip BOTH cities to us.
Anybody wanna try.... I expect that will be in 3 (player) turns though so
patience. Since Delhi will finish Parthenon on this turn I
rearrange for some growth. Other than that I like the look of
things and press enter.

T1 385BC (519)- Parthenon comes in. Delhi starts an Aqueduct due in
25 turns. The choices were settler 14, library 23, aqueduct 25. I
wanted all of them. Move a worker to put some cottages around
Bombay.

T2 370BC (518)- Hatty converts to Buddhism.

T3 355BC (517)- Hatty demands that we cancel our deals with Mao.
Normally I would rather have her for a friend than Mao, but Mao
actually likes us. Like one person has open borders with her, so
she is not particularlly liked and she is far away, so I refuse.
Pig Pasture finishs, more health hmmmm bacon, healthy.

T4 340BC (516) Zzzzz

T5 325BC (515) Archer finishs in Bombay, archer started.
T6 310BC (514) The Problem in Bombay now is happy, it is at pop. 4,
but can afford to go to 6, so I reconfigure for max growth.

T7 295BC Conf. Founded in a Distant Land.....by by by, are you ready
for who founded Confucianism, do you really want to know? well it
was that fine fellow G.Khan. It may be time to rethink our
official religion. Oh guess what, he won't trade.

T8 280BC (512) Hindusim spreadsin Delphi, look at old Alex there he,
is poised to land in our back yard with settlers or soldiers.

T9 265BC (511) More Cottages started at Bombay and Delhi.

T10 250BC (510) Madras borders expand, but do not bring Iron under
our control. Forge due in 1 turn at Madras, then Colossus, Iwas
really unsure where Alex was, now I am even more Unsure, I really
hate having him at our back. Really Slow turns, I hope the next
player gets that Colossus at least. In 14 turns someone will get
either a prophet 57%, engineer 28%, or artist 13%. All would be
really useful, probably the engineer would be the most useful, the
prophet the least. Alex now has Monarchy, we don't really need it,
but it is on the way to techs we do need so try and trade back for
it at some point. We are down CoL to Khan, Calendar to Mao, and
Monarchy to Alex.

Hatty has an extra copper to trade, but just doesn't like us enough,
would have been helpful for the colossus.
I checked around to see if I could cause any havoc (bribe someone to
war againist another), but no dice, maybe later this will be
possible.

and the Save. Good Luck, expect some slow turns.

Nice turns :) And we haven't even had to whip any wonders :)

That pre-chopping of forest trick works a treat when you need a quick production boost. I'm glad to see it netted us the GL quickly.

What do you guys think about culture bombing a city placed on the tile right underneath the Banana in the first pic of my report there? If we are to do that we will need to start a settler in Bombay shortly.

I like the idea. Regardless, we need 2-3 more cities otherwise we'll find ourselves unable to produce enough military / science to stay alive.

We also (now that we're past the initial rush of the ancient wonders) need to start thinking carefully about where we position our wonders with regard to city specialisation. eg: Great Library in the highest science city etc.

Edited for spelling :D

We really need to make a settling push now. We have only 3 cities and that won't cut it. We have 2 more dots to settle in our backyard and then try to get some more from somewhere, somehow.

If we still have the monopoly on Metal Casting, we could get a settler or 2 out of Madras before finishing the Colossus. Bombay can supply the Archers for them.

 I'm up again. I will take a look and post some comments later today. I don't want to rush at this point of the game and being at work can't open the save.

At the risk of "statin' the bleedin' obvious", we need to keep our eyes on what the tech situation is with the AI's. We want to keep monopolies on techs that have wonders and make efforts to quickly get techs with wonders that the AI has and we don't. And then of course base our preference for building wonders around that. We should never trade away a wonder tech until we are confident of finishing that wonder.

So based on that, if we have the monopoly on Metal Casting then the colossus can indeed wait and just having the forge ready will already give us a headstart on any AI getting that tech. If we are down on Code of Laws then getting that should be a mild priority.

I also agree that a few more cities are in order. We will be pumping culture as all three of our present cities have wonders already and will get more. With a bit of luck we'll get a city or two flip to us soon. Furthermore, I agree on building wonders in cities that are specialised towards the wonder in question.
.

I'm all for the culture bomb strategy allthough in my experience joining a great artist is in this part of the game better than using him to bomb. Flipping is determent by culture produced/turn, not culture points total. Culture bomb is nice to grab land, but with a religion, all the wonders and culture from a joined artist, we don't really have to worry about land grabbing.

I really like the resources near the southern iron. I think we could make a very powerfull hammercity there (STOP HAMMERTIME!) so it could become our main militairy producing city, while delhi focusses on wonders.

Where should we build the Great Library? I prefer to bundle the GL with the NE and Oxford and 2 scientists from a library to get a very specialized science city. I think Delhi should get Wall street, so the GL should be build somewhere else imho. Question is, where?

The GL should probably go to Bombay. That city will get a lot of cottages soon and have good science.

The problem is just that it doesn't have much production and will be slow to build it. We should get a Library done there soon and check. Maybe we even get an Engineer from Delhi next.

Actually a point that follows on from Sina's. Should we play this game slightly differently (to what I'm used to anyway) and aim to get as many Great Engineer's as we can and use them to rush wonders?

Specific GP production and me don't fit together at all. I never ever get the one I want, no matter how hard I try for it. Let's say there are 90% odds for a Sientist, 6% for a Prophet and 4% for an Artist. I'll either get the Prophet or the Artist, definitely not the Scientist. /rant

I don't think we can have a city set up as GP factory with what we have and can get in territory. I'm not sure we can afford to specialise wonders either. Delhi should get all GE wonders and an engineer specialist once it has grown. We might have to produce other wonders there as well though.

Getting a GP or GS would be helpful as well (GP for Theology, GS for Philosophy). That would mean 2 techs less we have to chase after.

Are you sure flipping is determined by culture produced/turn? Because I am pretty sure I have flipped cities with a culture bomb (those cities might have had a library, but not much else, cause flipping with a culture bomb really only works in the early game). Those cities still don't have any border expansion. The idea with the culture bomb here is not to get land (as you state we already have plenty of that), the idea is to get cities (which we don't have).

I think that the motely of wonders in Delhi is going to prevent any kind of Great Person specialization. The sheer number of wonders there will also give so many great people that this will prevent us from getting another city producing great people because the sheer #of G. Person points will be so high. I got a feeling that we will just have to take what Delhi offers us Great Person wise and inevitabley we will endup with way more Great Prophets than we need b/c they stop discovering tech soon. The only thing to do with them will be to save them and go for golden ages or join them to cities (Bombay for instance which is shield poor).

I can't play for about 24 hours so if you're available to play n0xie, I don't mind doing a swap. Otherwise I'll get it tomorrow.

lurker comment
don't know if you noticed but at the top of the page the city place you want has allready been built by mao and connected to the rice.
