Naming Places On The Map

DasScoot... naming units becamse a feature in PTW. there is a little ABC button when you look at the advanced unit buttons. click on that and presto. not sure what the keystroke is.

I like the idea of naming landmasses, but who gets to, you or the AI. Also, this option should be able to be toggled on and off for those that do not want to deal with it.

I dont think u woulde have to toggle it, just like how u can name units now, u can if u want to, but u dont have to.

I think that u shoul dbe able to highlight as many terrain spaces as you want and then spread the name over it, like on a map.

Quick way to rename units is Ctrl+N save you having to deal with all those damm advanced unit commands on your list.

Discovering and renaming land features/ masses could be a dynamic way of grabbing cultural points, giving a geographic point a name that will last a few thousand years is REaLLY influental, maybe give the expanionist attribute a double or triple score over non-expanionist nations naming features.

@ puglover: Yes! If we could view the batles up close like in medieval total war, Legion, Caesar (1,2,and 3) etc, it would rock. Or battles for city to take place in the SIm City view, with you moving tanks and troops into position on the outskirts of your city, and watching AA batteries located near your factories take out airplanes, and watch you fighters fly over downtown as they head to take out the bombers droppings bombs on your factories, and watching the shoot down planes hit skyscrapers, and...

You get the picture.

I love the idea to name the regions!!

I dont think that i t would be that hard to add names into the, just like naming units. PLEASE FIRAXIS, THINK ABOUT THIS!!

I have wanted the ablility to name land masses and bodies of water since CIV 1. I always give names to things just for fun. Since you can't put the names on the map, I print out a screen shot of the mini-map enlarge it a little and just write them on it. It's only for me to use for reference, but it makes the game more fun to play.

As for who gets to name things, I'd be happy even if it were done totally randomly. You could have the option of customized names or just random ones. I don't care either way, I just want it in the game.

I like the idea of letting the first civ to the location name it. This would also give you some idea just how far other civs have explored. Heck even the astronauts got to name landmarks on the moon :)

Really nice idea, indeed.

And if the game generated predesignated areas that the first civ to discover gets to name it.

Thats pretty crazy. But i think i might try. I like pretending to be the Commander and saying where my troops are goin gin my head.

I think it might be useful to name multiple rally points - then when you send a unit to rally points you would quickly choose from a list of names instead of having to scroll around the map and click on a point.

I think this could be quite neat, like in Alpha Centauri, they name some big mountain ranges, etc. The same kind of thing could be in Civ4, with major mountain ranges, Rivers, etc. They could use random names in Epic games, and have historically correct names in Conquests.
