Wouldn't it be cool, if when a volcano went off, the top of the moment went all red and bubbly and then KABOOM!!!?

Or watching tornados and hurricanes coming through! And you can see all the bits and pieces of buildings flying around!

You can tell I'm not of those people who likes to set off disasters in SimCity :(

I'm not against natural disasters, but I don't support the overuse of special effects or graphics. I would rather have solid game play and so-so graphics than a shallow piece of eye candy.

Not that they couldn't do both, but it is just my opinion that they don't need to do flashy natural disasters.

How would the natural disasters pre-industrialism be affected by human influence?

I agree that they shouldn't be totally random, but I think they should still have a degree of randomness. A player shouldn't be able to anticipate a hurricane or volcano.

Maybe the natural disasters (weather based, tornadoes, hurricanes, floods, etc) should have a bit of a pattern, or come about it cycles...

Exactly, like a cycle. :) I mean, comparing it to barb uprisings, we have no clue if it will happen. But somehow in Civ5, we'll get little "clues" that we can get and the smart player will anticipate this and ... maybe not build cities near a certain site or something.

Just throwing out an idea, not sure how this will be implemented if it is.

Tornadoes though, should only last 1 turn and stay in one tile, sence they generally don't travel miles and miles, and last years long.:mischief::crazyeye::lol:

I disagree. I would rather both. Gameplay is more important, but without good graphics, I wouldn't be all that interested.

Better special effects for natural disasters are probably not all that high on the priority list, though. Natural disasters themselves would have to be expanded to make this a worthwhile change, and that in itself is probably not the best way to expand the game, although it wouldn't be that bad.

Perhaps it could be easier to tell which mountains are volcanos. There should be a special bonus for settling near volcanos though, perhaps the plains around it have extra food (volcanic soil)?

What does it add to the game, though? It's a bit of a minimal benefit, for what would seem to be a disproportionate effort on the part of the developers to institute good graphics for it.

I'm not particularly for disaster graphics, as I don't like disasters themselves.

On the other hand, I'm all for animated ressources, like elephants migrating from a part of the map to another, same with whales in the sea.

I'm for shadows, sun reflection on armors, and possibly meteo effects (which does not affect gameplay)
