NBA Game Ends in Brawl

I disagree...the fan (or fans) threw the first blow by throwing things on to the court.

But I still think Artest and the others involved should get a really long penalty....

Who cares. You don't think that doesn't happen in other sports, right?

Attacking a fan should be a prison term. I mean it's not even a contact sport. If it were a contact sport, and he attacked a player, then maybe I'd be lenient (See: Todd Bertuzzi), but attacking a fan like that is just plain old bull****.

Ban him for life from basketball, and then lock him up.

And what do you suggest that the fans punishment be? (not trying to be smart...just wondering...)

Nothing, since the fan didn't throw any punches. Fans don't get punished in hockey when they throw things on the ice, or football when on the turf, and so forth.

Don't blame me, I'm just reflecting socital values! Why do you think people watch Animal Planet? It's to perchance see someone getting thier face bit off.

If we brought back gladitorial combat, it would sure cut down the over-population in prisons.
Yeah, and it have murderers doing what they are supposed to be doing, not just rotting in a jail, but out murdering people in a safe controlled environment (at least for the spectators)

Back in the 70's, college hockey in America had a different version of 'rivarlies' then what is traditionally known today. For example, Minnesota & Wisconsin is one of the biggest rivalries in any given American sport. With hockey being known for it's amateur boxing matches between players, and with the heated passion in any given rivalry scenario - bench clearing brawls were commonplace. The part that amazed me was that a number of times the students would jump the glass and join in the scuffle. It at least ranks up there with you crazy European soccer (football) fans, but it's the worst I've heard of in an American sport.

As for this basketball thing? Who cares. Basketball still sucks.

Blasphemy!

I was wondering one thing though - does the injury waiver that's associated with ticket purchases include injuries from getting sucker-punched by a player? Might be a worthy lawsuit for some shmuck fan. I know I would taunt a player in hopes that he'd punch me, so I could sue for millions & get something for the mental anguish associated with having to sit and watch a basketball game...

seen similar things in Football (european) it reminds me ether of a millwall match or Eric Cantona were he kung-fu kicked a fan
