Soccer set to overtake other sports in America

Maybe cause our hockey teams suck and haven' won a stanley cup in a while? But yeah, I vividly remember the craziness in the streets of Toronto 10 years ago when Portugal played Italy in the Euro. Little Italy is close to Little Portugal (or whatever you call it).. I was taking a bus from l.p. to l.i. and it was pure mayhem.

As for the growth of the sport on this continent,

Well, it's already doing well in Mexico.

It's doing well in Canada because in most cities it doesn't have much competition outside of hockey or CFL. Toronto is the only city that has teams in the U.S. sports, and the population is big enough to support it in addition to those. Like you said, TFC's crowds are second only to the Leafs.

In the US it's different. Every city has a multitude of sports teams that have long and deep followings so breaking into that is difficult.
