A Major US Team Sport Male Athlete Finally Comes Out Of The Closet

look, Tebow is not a particularly good quarterback, and I wouldn't want him starting for my favorite team, but the 2011 Broncos speak for themselves

They say "our defense was tremendous" and "thank god Ryan Clark has the sickle cell trait."

Collins has started 60+ games 5 times and for 2 Finals teams in that span.

Tebow could not crack the starting job competing against Mark Sanchez and Greg McElroy, and I refuse to believe that is just Rex sabotaging him.

Nah, I think Tebow really is better than Sanchez. Remember that Tebow's one real highlight of the year came against the Jets.

look, obviously Denver's defense was awesome that season, and obviously the Broncos staying in that game with the Steelers was at least partly due to an abnormal hole in their secondary, but 1-4 and 8-5 aren't fluke numbers either

it's slightly unfair to compare somebody with relatively little time in a league with somebody who's had a very long career by bringing up stats dependent on that long career, but then again, Collins' long career and experience are one of his biggest assets, so I guess it's not a big deal

I also think that a lot of truly atrocious quarterbacks are being swept under the rug by claiming that Tebow is That Bad; was he really worse than, say, Blaine Gabbert, or Brady Quinn, or Ryan Tannehill, or Ryan Lindley, or John Skelton?

having said that, considering the way you said it in the first place, I guess it's not as outrageous to say Collins has been a better center than Tebow a quarterback, but still

Tannehill is absolutely a better quarterback than Tebow. Probably Skelton too, the other three are fairly even with him.

Remember that none of these QB's have the supporting cast Tebow did. Tannehill had no receivers, Tebow had one of if not the best wideout duos in the league in Decker and Thomas. The Arizona QB Committee members played behind the worst offensive line in the league, Denver has one of the league's premier centers.

Thanking God for Touchdowns and talking about it when the Media asks him about it is "past that point"?
If you find Tebowing to be offensive, then, yes, you are intollerant.

Because I don't want it constantly thrown in my face? That's not intolerance, that's wanting to be left alone.

Be nice now. Just 'cause a single one shared a link to that doesn't make them stupid. Considering the amount of negative crap that people have said about Tebow (i.e. people like Cutlass) I think it fairly pertinent.
.
These situations aren't even close to analogous. Are you serious??

A sub 50% completion rate, a sub 80 QBR, giving up over 30 sacks in his full season, less than 2,000 yards throwing...yeah. That's a really bad QB. The 2011 was about a soft schedule, great defense, and total luck. Ponder isn't a better QB because he gets to play with the greatest running back of the last 15 years.

This blurb, or variations of it were floating around facebook today:

Tim Tebow: I'm a Christian!

Media: Keep it to yourself.

Jason Collins: I'm Gay!

Media: You're a hero!

Rah, rah, rah, political correctness.

Well, a guy proudly declaring he's heterosexual would be strange at best and annoying at worst.

Jason Collins is probably a better center than Tebow is a quarterback. He can go worry about his message in the CFL, competing to be the backup for the Toronto Argonauts.

Also, no one tells Tebow to keep his christian faith to himself, least of all the media. I watch enough sportscenter to know that.

So you never heard Jake Plummer or Kurt Warner talk about that?

Ok.

Didn't Tebow implicitly beat Collins out of the closet? I get the impression from Tebow that he values his relationship with one man so much that he refrains from sexual relations with women.

This is a joke right? Both those guys were Rookie receivers and dropped so many passes that year. They be hard-pressed to be in the top half in that year. Remember, that team was 1-4 under Orton, its not like that were extremely talented.

Wait I'm confused. I thought we were arguing that Tebow was a good quarterback, not that he's simply a better quarterback than Kyle Orton, because at this point I think we could all agree that even a replacement-level second baseman could play quarterback better than Kyle Orton.

Tebow was a good enough quarterback to turn Denver around, get them into the playoffs and actually win.

It's hard to argue against actual results, but i'm sure more than a few will attempt it.

sigh

I blame Mobby for the Tebow derail

Don't blame me for something you participated in too bub.

Besides, it's still on topic. A comparison of Collins to other athletes was inevitable in this thread. I'm just good at offering points that people like to talk about. I mean people could have talked two pages about the gay rugby player if they wanted, but they found the Tebow discussion more interesting I guess.

But hey, if you wanted the thread to be boring though.......

Like whoever decided to trade him to the team that cut him? I think the argument could be made that Tebow sucks more than Collins.

Why can't you straight people keep your heterosexuality to yourselves?
