I've been trying to delete this game for a day now and haven't got it deleted. It keeps on give me error messages and it won't let me re-install it to find the missing components. I even tried something that 2kgames sent me and it wouldn't work on helping me re-install it. I also tried removed it from the ADD/REMOVE list but it give me this error message.

Down below I'll list what error messages I am getting -

Civ4Component
D:\data2.cab
Data error (cyclic redundancy check).

Could someone please assist me on re-installing this game. Maybe the problem is the game isn't fully uninstalled.

Thanks

It's still giving me the same message and won't let me re-install. I cleaned it and don't see any scratchs, spots, or anything out of the ordinary. However I have been trying to delete this game and it finally let me un-install it now it just won't re-install. It kept giving me this error message when I was trying to un-install it then it went away and I finally got it removed. And the reason I was trying to un-install it was cause some components were missing.

Here it is -

ERROR NUMBER: 0x80040702
DESCRIPTION: FAILED TO LOAD DLL: DSETUP

Setup will now terminate ... That finally went away for some reason afterwards then I could delete it. Now it's giving me that message I sent you before. If it's messed up is there a way you can send the game back and get a new one? I still don't see scratches but maybe it's something else because of the un-installing part. Or maybe it's a component of some sort that won't let me re-install it cause I have no idea.

If it's the game then I'll def nead some advice on how to fix it or get a new one.

Thanks

I'm going to get some disc cleaner then if that doesn't work I'm not sure cause it won't let me re-install it. I'm really just pissed off but that doesn't solve anything so I'm still trying to figure out a way to fix this problem. However my disc I discovered does have a couple of scratches on it... not sure if that's the reason. I can't send it back to amazon.com cause I won't get a full refund due to the 30 day refund. 90 day warranty is up and hopefully I find a solution to it and don't have to throw this game away.

I got a few questions -

1. Can I send a letter to 2kgames asking for a exchange or something?

2. Is there any other way to install it without that message popping up?

3. Does disc scratch removal really work?

Any other advice on my problems with installation would be greatly appreciated. Cause I wanna get back to Civ 4 and actually get to play online cause I never played online. The game worked then I uninstalled it cause it was lagging and now it won't install at all. If there is any patches or anything someone could send me or anything get at me through my email at jay15656@yahoo.com or just post it up in this forum.

Thanks

Unfortunately this looks like a corrupted disk. Firaxis/Take2 does exchange such discs. For the US I can give you the link, in other countries you'd have to call them or look on their website:

For USA customers:

You will need to send the game to the below address along with a covering letter explaining the problem. Please note for any scratched or cracked CD's there will be a replacement fee of $7.50 This should be in the form of a cheque and made payable to Take 2 Interactive. You will need to send the cheque along with the damaged cd (inc. full packaging) and a covering letter detailing the problem. If the disc is within the 90 day warranty and proof of purchase is sent with it and the product is deemed to be a manufacturing fault then no charge will be made for replacement.

7.50 per disc or for all of them? So if I send disc one I should be getting back disc one for civilization 4? Anything else before I send the disc in the mail?

Thanks,

Jay

I would send them an email to confirm this but as I understand it you are supposed to send the cd and 7.50$ for each cd and they exchange that - but as I said best thing is send Firaxis' tech support an email (it should be linked on the site I linked to) and explicitly (this is important they are not the most competent of people there) ask about this exchange thing, better yet quote it. I know of people who just said "I have a destroyed disc what do I do?" and who were asked to provide a DirectX diagnosis to track down the cause of why the game does not work with a destroyed disc :crazyeye:

Do you have the email I don't see it in the link unless I'm blind. So basically I should verifty to them that I am going to be sending a disc and what errors I am getting when trying to in-stall the disc. Anything else cause I really don't want to send money out and have them rip me off or something of that sort.

I just checked - they only have a contact form (if you click on contact us on the site I linked to or here). I don't really think they'll rip you off, more likely it will take a while but this exchange program is genuine and since you bought the game they should respond. But I would ask them first if that is still correct and if they can confirm this - if they maintain their main site as well as the Civ4 site they have not updated it in 2 years

When I send the disc should I send it in the original box or in a disc envelope. Just afraid they might not send the original box back. I sent them a message basically just saying do you exchange damaged discs and I tried everything possible in fixing the situation. Also to get randomly off subject is Civ 4 online playable?

No idea - they just say full packaging, whatever that means - and I luckily did not have to do it...
Yes Civ4 is a multiplayer game that can be played online with a gamespy account or directIP connections.

They didn't respond to where I should send the game or confirm if they even still do that. Here is what I already did and what they sent me -

Insert the game's install CD in the drive:
Double click on my computer
Right click on the CD drive containing the game and choose explore
Check the disc for a setup.exe file and double click on it
This should start the install wizard and prompt you to uninstall the game.

If you continue to experience issues:
Open My Computer then open the Local Disk (C:)
Open the program files folder.
Click on the tools menu then choose folder options
Click on the view tab and tick the box labelled "show hidden files and folders". Press OK
Open the installshield installation information folder
Search for a folder named

{CFBCE791-2D53-4FCE-B3BF-D6E01F4112E8}

Right click on the folder and choose rename. Press the End key on the keyboard and type the word OLD. Press the enter key.
At this point, refer to the manual for installation instructions.

This will replace and overwrite any missing components that were preventing the game from being uninstalled or reinstalled normally.

What exactly should I say to them? I already told them it's a damaged disc and tried everything possible. I just wanna make it clear before sending something somewhere. Basically what I'm trying to say is would you take the risk of sending the disc back even though there are chances you might get a problem.

*sigh* that is unfortunately exactly what my feeling about the quality of their customer support is.
Unfortunately they do not provide a phone number so one could get past those people who cannot read.
My advice would be a pretty harsh email to both their Contact Us and their Provide Feedback forms. Basically telling them to actually read the email you send them and then just asking if the information on the linked page (just put the link and copy the text there) is correct.
Or you could trust their page :mischief:
Sorry that I cannot advice you better, but this really hinges on the abysmal quality of their Customer Service :gripe:

Thanks a bunch really appreciate it. Hopefully they get back to me so I can send it in the mail ASAP. Is there anyone out there in this entire message board that had to go through with this process and have it work? Please post back as soon as possible and it will be greatly appreciated.
