What can I say? what a crappy printer. I recently bought a new ink cartridge and replaced my old one. The new ink cartrige is defective, so I went and got a new one. Problem solved, right? Wrong.

This stupid bloody printer won't allow me to remove the old ink cartridge UNLESS it is EMPTY. Therefore I cannot replace the defective cartridge unless I spend about a month printing out sheets and sheets of gibberish in an attempt to use up the ink (before you ask, no, I'm not going to consider that as a solution).

So can anyone help me with this problem? How do I remove an ink cartridge from an Epson Stylus C20UX Printer without having to either use up all the ink, or force it open with a crowbar?

I had a very, very similar problem late last year with my Epson Stylus Color 670. It is rather inconvenient.

I manually took the cartridge out in sheer frustration, but that screwed up the printer software, and it had to be reinstalled file by file.

I had the same problem this year, when I installed a cartridge that was supposedly compatible with the computer, but was in fact not (it was black and white, or something...)
I was going to do the same attack job, but then found out an alternate solution, as outlined below

What do you mean by defective - is it giving error messages saying that there has been a fatal operation error in SPOOL32.DLL or something to that effect. That was my problem.
The solution for me was in the end quite simple - switch off the computer both on the computer and at the power point, then turn it back on again.
(As for the cartridge, switched the option from color to b&w in properties menu)

The error is in the software or something, and that resets the connection.

It still gives the error message now and then, but it is managable.

Hope this is of some vague help.

Thats why I stick to HP laserjets!

Lexmark is pretty good also, but I would recommend HP overall. Sabotage, have you tried going to the Epson website and trying to get help thru there? A lot of manufactures have common problems & fixes listed on the site and this might be one of them.

My problem is that there is no way for me to remove the ink cartridge unless it's empty. Thanks to everyone for all the help tho :)
