need info about ancient military

The Mongol capital is normally spelt "Ulaan Baatar" or "Ulan Bator" in Latin letters; "Ulan Baator" looks like mix-up of two different transliteration schemes. But it actually makes a kind of ironic sense as a Great Leader name, since it means "Red Hero".

I see no problem with interpreting the Medieval Infantry as dismounted knights - especially since that's obviously what the graphics depict. Now, Medieval Inf and Pikemen becoming available before Knights doesn't make much sense. None at all, infact.

Don't get me started on the CENSORED Enkidu Warrior! :wallbash:

Now, we could no doubt make a truly impressive list of inaccuracies, typos etc, etc, but I think I've fulfilled my threadjacking quota for today. :D

My biggest problem is whether the phalanx-type spearman should come at the same time as bronze-age swordsman. That was a big step missing in civ3's offensive infantry progression.

i'm thinking about doing a mod where the units are upraded frequently based on new resources that become available (stone vs bronze vs iron age spearmen, pikemen w/ gunpowder, etc.), but i want to find a way to do this in generic civ3

the chasqi scout and javelin thrower could replace the bronze-age swordsman, but did the aztecs have an equivalent infantry type to it?

Jaguar or Eagle Warriors seems like the obvious candidates.

I think he skipped it finally, but Karhgath's Conquer the Earth mod had in atleast one incarnation a 2.2.1 Axeman unit filling the gap between Warriors and Swordsmen.

IIRC, the progression was:

1.1.1 Warrior 10s
1.2.1 Spearman 20s
2.1.1 Archer 20s
2.2.1 Axeman 30s
3.2.1 Swordsman 40s

Horsemen were 3.1.2 50s, IIRC.
