Need testers for new editor

The no corruption flag loads and saves properly. But if it doesn't work in game I can do nothing about it without the source code.

My hope had been that the misprogramming was in the editor not the game.

howdy steph,

steph's editor = 0.5.0

on every OTHER tab that has a left-side pick list you can click in the column AFTER the item name [but before any other column starts] and that item is selected. not so in the RACE tab.

examples ...
- on the RACE tab, click in the blank area just beyond ROME and nothing is selected.

- on the PRTO tab, click in the the blank area just beyond ARCHER and that item is selected.

plus, on the PRTO tab there is a tooltip that shows when one hovers over any selectable part of the 1st column of the left-side pick list. oddly enuf, that tooltip doesn't seem to exist on ANY other tab that has a left-side pick list.

take care,
lee
[slowly working my way thru your nifty editor] [*grin*]

diff prob, so diff msg, yes? [*grin*]

the default c3c editor has a "players" tab in the scenario properties dialog. i can't find that info on any of the tabs in your nifty replacement editor. am i overlooking it, or did you leave it out for some reason, or [gasp! arg! [*grin*]] did you forget it?

take care,

This was done on purpose, so the colour of the selected civ remains visible.

I may add it to the missing lists.

Custom players are not done yet. Plan for later.

Hope to get the source code of CivIII are now none, zero, nada, nothing, rien.

I was hoping that this could be achieve, and that the editor could go even beyond.

Now that's gone, I don't really see the point anymore. I will probably concentrate my efforts on a new project, ie working on my own game.

It doesn't mean the editor is abandonned. But I will not work on at as intensively. I spent 3 months working almost only on it.

I will correct bugs, and release "patches" to correct them quickly. For new functions, it will take more time. I guess I will probably work on it when I'm travelling abroad, and I have to kill time at the hotel, as I can do it relatively easily on my laptop, but working on the other project is more difficult.

So check the thread from time to time, but don't expect updates to often, probably once a month at best.

howdy steph,

[1] now that you point it out, the colors WOULD get shaded ... that's a very good reason to avoid that selection method.

[2] taint needed, but would be nice just for the sake of consistency.

[3] here's hoping you get "a round tuit" sometime soon. i like to start custom games with a friend and we usually have all the civs start with extra units.

on the other subject - civ3 source code access - i'm sorry to hear it and not at all surprised. [*sigh ...*] i can see that situation would remove a good bit of your enthusiasm for the editor. hopefully, you'll get interested again and have fun fully fleshing it out.

thanks for your work! it's greatly appreciated.

take care,
lee

I've not lost interest with the editor, I will just not be able to work as much on it as before.
So I will correct bugs, add custom players, finish my "sub scenario extractor", etc. But it will take more time.

Contrary to 2k games or Firaxis, I will not abandon the people who enjoy Civilization III.

howdy steph,

ah! i misunderstood ... i do that often enuf that it no longer surprises anyone who knows me. [*grin*] i look forward to future releases! thank goodness for thread subscriptions ...

take care,
lee

Bravo!

PS I plan to do some "beating up" on the 8 entries which are "unknown" on the PRTO tab - do you have any ideas about these at all?

Best,

Oz

I can't seem to get your editor to use my mod folder. I keep modifying the folder path, but I can't get my resources to show up. The .biq is uncompressed, and I've looked all over, but I cannot find what the problem is. Sorry if it is a simple thing, but I can't find the problem. Where does the scenario folder search start? I notice you have the .biqs start at the Scenarios folder, and in your screenshots you have different folders in different places. I have CivComplete....is that the problem?

Oh...it just worked. I booted up your editor to see which file I saved it under, and all my icons are up!
Apparently the refresh doesn't work when you are changing the search folder. I thought I checked that...oops.
Thanks anyway. Turns out you programmed it perfectly.

Thanks again for the best editor ever, you saved me a lot of time.

While working with it, I found two more things:

1) A small thing that might be comfortable would be a recent files list to save time when working on the same biq over several weeks.

2) I saw that your filters are working very well, especially when selecting stealth attack targets. The "requires resource" tab could be refined, though. What about the possibility to select a certain resource? That way, you could give, for example, marksmen the stealth attack against all biological units in just two clicks (Add from filter, select foot units - Add from filter, select all units needing horses to be built). Or you could give AT Infantry the chance to directly attack all machinery in a stack (Select Land class, Select Needs Oil).

I downloaded it once a couple days ago, and it didn't work...

Now I realize I'm stupid and forgot to download Framework, Its dling now...

I think it looks great, I will load the scenario in that I'm working on right now, and tell you how it worked, hopefully by tomorrow

Alright, I downloaded it yesterday, but whenever I try to open anything with it

Exception Text **************
System.IO.EndOfStreamException: Unable to read beyond the end of the stream.

That happens. Did I download the wrong version of MS Framework, or do I need to download the editor again?

I think that means you need to uncompress the .biq or something like that.
There was a lot of big-text about it earlier this thread. Check there.

I need to know. Does this work on a mac OS X? Will this streamline the making of a mod? Or just modify regular gameplay?
