Hi everyone,

I installed Civ IV Complete a month or two ago and ran into the BTS 3.17 patch problem. I had solved it by merging the contents of a new folder that had been created into the original BTS folder. Good enough...

However, I recently had to redo my entire computer and after installing Civ IV Complete and then the BTS 3.17 patch, I found that this time no new folder was created or any of the patch's contents placed elsewhere, except perhaps in the BTS original and proper folder.

I need confirmation that the following are indeed the latest versions of the programs and that BTS patched correctly. I gathered the information from the build info boxes from within each program (please make sure that you check carefully):

Civilization IV:

Civ Version 174
Save Version 103
Build Version 1.7.4.0
Build Date Thu Jun 07 04:45:55 2007
Build FINAL RELEASE
Mod Name: None

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Warlords:
Civ Version 213
Save Version 200
Build Version 2.1.3.0
Build Date Thu Jun 07 05:55:39 2007
Build FINAL RELEASE
Mod Name: None
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

***Beyond the Sword***

Civ Version 317 This seems OK
Save Version 301 Possibly OK
Build Version 3.1.3.1 (104717) I'm not convinced of this one; is this really correct?
Build Date Mon May 19 21:20:10 2008 Possibly OK
Build FINAL RELEASE Possibly OK
Mod Name: None Certainly OK

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
That's it. Please, can a few people confirm that all of this is right, especially BTS? Thanx in a advance.
best,
La Mano
LaMaño, I have the same for BtS. Can't help you with Vanilla & Warlords; my backups, although they let me install, don't allow me to load. I had the same bizarre install problem with the BtS patch v3.17, and simply copied everything over. It seems to be working fine.
Thank you for the reply draco. It's good that all three of us have the same info for BTS, but I'm a bit confused by your mention of Warlords. Is your info the same as well, or is it different?
I mean I have no way to verify. My Vanilla & Warlords discs have been destroyed. I made backups, so I can still install, but I can't play them, because the game checks to see if the disc is a print or a burn, and a burn won't load the game for playing. So, your info for Vanilla and Warlords looks right, but I have no way to confirm that.
Got it. My guess is that my versions of Civ IV and Warlords are fine because the patch for BTS should not change anything as far as those two games. My main concern is with BTS but now I have two confirmations that this is indeed the right information on the "About this Build" box for BTS after patch install. I feel 95% confident now. I only wish one or two more folks would check it... I'm paranoid, I guess. But then again, the 3.17 patch is a real pain and kind of unreliable, so...
I had been reading about this prior to getting the game, and I just got my copy today. I think I may have the best way to avoid problems.
When I installed the game, I chose the custom install (as I usually do for most things), and I noticed that it was going to install the game into a folder called "Sid Meier's Civilization 4 Complete." I tried renaming that to just "Sid Meier's Civilization 4" and installed. After checking to see that the game would run and that it's 3.13, I just ran the 3.17 patch and it worked.
The issue here is that most people just let the game install in the default directory, which is different with Complete. The patch puts its contents into folders assuming the non-Complete version is installed, so you end up with two different folders and have to copy files over. So, if you just rename the directory when installing, the patch will work and nothing has to be copied.
