UPDATE VI
Royal Union In the Eastern Mediterrenean took place quite quickly between
Egypt and
Antioch. The houses of both families were now together and so were the lands they ruled.
A new grand capital was to be built between the former capitals of both. This city, Jerusalem was to be a beutiful one as much money and time would be spent on its construction. A new name for this empire was also being thinked about (since it was no longer just antioch people that made it up). This Union has not made Antioch the most powerful in the world, but a stronger nation indeed.
The Epic war between
Venice against
Rome and
Geneva continued. However not much action took place in the part of Venice or Geneva. Geneva reinforced its army and was now in supply and ready to push forward. While Venice continued to grow its military strenght, concentrating it to hold the siege of a primary city.
The real surprise came not from an european power, but from Carthage. Carthage had diplomatic problems with Rome in the past regarding land claims int he mediterrenean. This was a perfect opportunity to strike at Rome and expand in the penninsula.
And so, the great General Hannibal, spending extra money on this campaign, loaded up more than a dozen elephants and 15 divisions.
The Romans saw the ships comming, but paid little attention since they were used to pety raids from Venice as distractions. Little time they had when the army landed and moved towards the capital.
At the gates of Rome one of the greatest battles in ancient history took place.
Hannibal was outnumbered 2 to 1. But he had surprise as the Romans were tired, hungry and unprepared. Hannibal maintained his elephants on the right flank. He then made sure that the center would allow itself to be pushed, allowing his flanks to surround the Romans. His Elephants surprisingly had no part in the battle (other than psychological effects). But the Numidian cavalry was what won that day. The roman army was encircled and after almost two hours of combat, the Roman Generals were killed and the army evaporated. Hannibal had lost 9 divisions, while the romans had lost 24.
With the destruction of the Roman Army, hannibal turned to Rome. Rome was in panic and many fainted with the sight of the elephants at its gates. hannibal and his army would go and destroy the city, Burning rome to the ground, and sowing the ground with salt so nothing would ever grow there again!.
Rome had now desintegrated into nothing more of bands of former infantry. It no longer had any cities as they had been systematically destroyed by both Carthage and Venice. The war for rome was pretty much over and a new great power started to grow. The money and gold pillaged from rome helped into creating Cartago Novo. A Carthagenean city in the hearth of Italy. Here a great arc of thriumph was to be build.
Carthage -9 divisions, Rome -Rome. Carthage +1 city
In the colder north, another war was taking place.
Sweden went on against its traditional enemy,
Kalmar. But this time the
Lithuanians were also fighting.
The war could have gone for a longer time if it wasnt for the suicide of its leader. After his death, Kalmar went into chaos and was victim to Ehtnic clensing from the Swedish Army. Sweden has achieved a reputation in the ancient world as a power that uses terror and destruction to maintain its morale up and its enemies down. But now that the Kelmar are gone... who will they attack next?
-1 kelmar Union
Many nations in Europe tought that the
Normans and the people of
Holland were more than friends. That they were allies. But trust is not always a good thing in this human world.
The Normans invaded Holland, capturing a city and having the enemies capital under siege. But the war was not lost for Holland. They had grown its army to be able to at least maintain a good defense. The Normans tried to land north of the capital, but this didnt turned so well due to the wether of the English Channel. Forcing them to maintain a thrust on land. The General of the Dutch army descided to give up a city in exchange for time. Time to bring its army togheter. The Army of the Normans were now at the gates of the capital of holland.
But such city was well fortified and now had numbers as up as 20 divisions defending it.
The war between William of Orange, and William of Normandy had begun.
In the Aegean, problems continue as ships disapear and
Greek Colonists are harrased for 'trying to colonise territory of
Constantine". Athens grow its fleet and Sparta trains its soldiers for a conflict that seems to draw closer. The
Crimeans are not known if they are to side w/ the Greeks or remain neutral...
Other nations continue to Grow and expand, but nothing worth mentioning on the history books.
Random events:
