NES World/Regional Maps Requests Thread

Ouch. Image degradation sucks. That happened to my first NES too.

Tell me about it! It garbles up every area where one color borders another, up to ten pixels away. The worst part is still the black borders... Ach, the horror.

Take your time, dis. ;) :p Actually I'm in no big rush.

Reno, I'm half finished with the coast. Just keeping you posted.

I'm making good progress, now. I think it's partly because I was slightly UTI when I started working (what with the National day here in Norway). Anyway, I'm done with the rivers. Still not done the garble everywhere, but that is easier than redrawing the fine lines. Moving over to forest edges and lakes next.

The Naussica map, it is finished! In .png this time! ;)

Thank you so much. :hatsoff:

Also, not to be a spelling nazi, but... It's not Naussica, but Nausicaa (In the Hong Kong DVD it's translated as Naussica, yes, but that's not the official English name for the movie, manga or the charecter). Also, in some cases it's spelled as Nausicaä. (That the, official, official English translation name, the one that Miyazaki gave it.)

This is excelent work Silver Steak, if I may, I'd like you to add one thingy on the map. :)

And that is Mountains... Could you add mountains on that map, in the same style as the ones in Fall of Wu'di NES? :)

Here's the original map from the manga, so you know where to place mountains...

DUH! I still have the old map! :p And yes, I can add mountains. Do you want them with two separate hieght scales, or just one?

BTW: The seven part manga is SO much better than the anime version. :D

OK, I've tried several times to draw mountains, but it just ends up ugly. I'm sorry, but you'll have to find someone else to do it. It just doesn't work out for me. Sorry 'bout it all.

I still say, use the GIMP. It can clear up image degradation easily. I took the image from post 297, used Posterize, and got the attached map in all of ten seconds. Now that's a good editor!

www.gimp.org (You probably want the GIMP for Windows link on the left side)

Where shall the mountains be placed?

I'm Old School. I don't do fancy GIMP stuff. I do it for real. () Pixel by pixel, baby. And technically, I did the all the work on the map you posted, so I get the cred for that one as well. :p

On the same places as in the map I posted in post #309.

@Silver Steak I agree, I never claimed othervise. Just commented that you spelled the name wrong. ;)

Sure, you can have the credit, but how dare you suggest that I'm not really doing anything? I declare: "Bluish pixels are to be color sea-blue" and the similar for the other colors, and then I use a tool to correct them, pixel by pixel.

Anyway, here's the map with mountains. I simply deleted everything but the mountains on Reno's map, then overlaid them onto Silver's map and set the transparency up a bit. I can make them darker or lighter if you wish. Comments? Remember that I have a GIMP version of this, where everything is easy to change.

Text removed. I was feeling charitable, so I also smudged the edges a bit. The borders to them looked wierd without black lines.

I still say you should learn to do it yourself. It's not that hard.

SS gets annoyed with EM for one-upping, owls tear him to bits. :p
Erik introduced SS aka Frode to El Goonish Shive (where the owl is from), owls obey Erik.

Comments, Reno?
