NES2 II: Age of Discovery

Hey das, could the Pope get away with declaring territorial independence?

He's currently located in the Visgoth capital, so it will get rather interesting if he tries.

Intersting...who plays the Visigoths?

tossi does.

To Visigothia
From His Rockingness, teh Popiest pope of all time, Pope Me I

Can you give us some pretty coastal estates? We'd like to declare independence, and I've always depended on the kindness of strangers. Which you aren't, but it seemed a good quote to put there. ROCK ON!

I choose tommorow das , which I assume it's today? I'll send orders soon!

another thing please stop with this wierd popes it's kidn stupid and ruin the whole idea behind the pope. A hippi (whatever it's spelled) pope is somthing very very stupip.

(update tomorrow! or Today if that post was from yesterday. Yes, still significant interest I would believe Das)

No... update TOMORROW. As in, 28th of December.

28th i can do i need to get onto my pc not my laptop and get my orders written up fully

Wait... have I sent orders yet?

No.

Orders:
Continue expanding heavily north.
Spend both eco on increasing the army, I'm trying to increase it A LOT.
Parade half of the army north along with the settlers to clear the way just in case we encounter hostile tribes. If they are not hostile, allow them to join the Empire.

(Lolz, :D, you're playing that other pope are you Fantasmo?)

Are there multiple Popes?

I must say Iam most concerned for the popes mental state, if his holiness is suffering a curse from the lord it would be a curse upon us all to have him continue in office as it will merely serve as an afrontation to the lord god allmighty.

Oh, he's not insane, just old. He'll probably be dead soon. Regardless, all the cardinals and such support the coastal estates and the independence. They don't think the estates NEED to be coastal, but they'd LIKE coastal estates.

Beginning update. Sorry, but I won't wait this time.

Update 11 - Year 1310 CE

Global Events:

The TSA forces take over the Visgoth Roderria and Northwestern Varidrung. Though in the latter, its fairly easy, in the former, though much of the Visgoth “Army of Atlantis” and Atlantic Fleet is withdrawn, the remaining forces fight bravely.

(-4 Visgoth battalions, -3 TSA battalions, -2 TSA UU)

The Svenians at Chichen Itza are besieged by the Mayans.

(-1 Mayan battalion, -1 Svenian battalion)

Carib raiders begin to concentrate on Messippa (-1 Economy).

The [Incan] Imperial Library is complete, making Cuzco one of the major centers of learning, in fact, the greatest one of the Atlantean Continents.

Tired from the last half-decade of campaigning, Britannian and Svenian commanders do not launch any new offensives during this period. The supply situation for Britannians is getting worse in Scandinavia, due to growing attrition rates and Svenian raids.

(-1 Britannian battalion)

But just because the two major combatants aren’t participating doesn’t mean that there is no fighting at all these five years! Arlus IV of Burgundia and Ariy I of Croatia are the chief commanders of the war in Severoslavia right now. The Severoslavians themselves, it seemed, were too busy fighting back Baltian and Svenian forces (should the latter appear). Burgundians, though, launched a bold counteroffensive into the Baltian line, expecting Britannian support – or even expecting to support the Britannian offensive. Now, that never came and the Baltians almost crushed the Burgundians at Plodensk, but the Croatians, Polians and Lombards chose to act now. Croatian forces, numerous and fresh, had the decisive effect. These joint forces have struck at the Baltian badly-protected supply lines across the Baltia-Severoslavia border, and managed to stem the tide at Plodensk just in time. The Baltians are not completely crushed, but are dealt a noticeable blow.

(-1 Britannian battalion, -7 Severoslavian battalions, -6 Burgundian battalions, -2 Burgundian mercenaries, -2 Polian battalions, -2 Lombardian battalions, -3 Croatian battalions, -19 Baltian battalions, -4 Baltian UU)

The Britannian “treachery”, their failure to support the Burgundian attack as was expected might make a few holes in the alliance between the Crusaders...

The Alexandrine Imperial Banking System is created. One of its sideeffects is the beginninug of modern (sort of) mercantilism. This and some other developments – such as a government-funded telescope, incredibly boosting prestige of the Alexandrine science (+1 Education) - bring the Alexandrines to the next level of technologic development.

The war in Anatolia between the Byzantines and the Itzhakist Alliance continues...

(see spotlight)

(-14 Judean battalions, -2 Judean UU, -16 Persian battalions, -14 Khazarian battalions, -4 Khazarian UUs, -21 Byzantine battalions, -11 Byzantine UU, -1 Byzantine ship)

The planned coup against Alatesh was barely prevented by swift action of Sinhalese forces. The Sinhalese propaganda campaign produces mixed results – some see it as Alatesh’s great accomplishment, others think that this makes him a powerless puppet in the Sinhalese hands.

The Sinhalese decide to crack down hard on Shashlyk-Khan. In a superbly-executed operation, the Sinhalese manage to take over the Old Juankorum and force a surrender of the local garrison. The attempted Greater Manchurian counterattacks on the city fail, and resistance ceases. Obalyk, a leader fairly popular amongst the common folk and the merchants but not as much amongst the nobility, is installed. However, Shashlyk-Khan has somehow slipped through the Sinhalese grasp.

(-9 Greater Manchurian battalions, -3 Sinhalese battalions)

With the defeat of the Juankorum Commune (see below), the Korean Empire has been proclaimed, led by Emperor Paejong, one of the N’Dranese generals.

The Sinhalese investigation fails to find any trace of a “rebellion” in Kangappura. Nevertheless, it would seem that not all the colonists are happy with Sinhalese control, and the people in the southernmost colonies do not feel themselves very “Sinhalese”. No organized rebellions or plans of such were found, though.

The Chinese education program bears fruit at last (once again, its revolutionary, as the education is, indeed, “for all”, including peasants and women). Already, many say that Emperor Hong Wu is one of the greatest emperors in Chinese history (and not only because that’s what they are taught now ;) ). The N’Dranese/Chinese fleet crush the Juankorum fleet, and soon after, the Chinese forces assault the city. The Communard forces fight defiantly, but are forced back, and their leaders commit suicide (followed by the more fanatical of their followers) and demolition the government buildings.

(-Juankorum Commune, -11 Chinese battalions, -1 Chinese UU, -8 Chinese ships, -5 N’Dranese ships)

In Java, parts of the nobility, fearful of Aurivayam’s centralization policies, have tried to overthrow him. Naturally, this failed as Aurivayam has a good population support base amongst the rest of the nobility and the common population. It would seem that a foreign power has supported this coup in some way.

The Sabahese prepare for a great and decisive battle with the Black Army... only to found out that it disappeared. Soon after, though, it reappeared in the eastern Sabah, burning down the villages there as well (-1 Economy).

An Alexandrine exploration fleet has, unexpectedly, been sighted off the coast of Kangappura by Sinhalese fishermen. That was surprising, as it was previously thought that the “Incan Continent” stretches from Arctica to Antarctica, with no way to sail “through” it. Xenokratis believes that soon, Cathay could be reached as well.

Random Events:

Kushana, the "Valkyrie of Atlantis", becomes the new ruler of TSA (+1 Confidence).

To combat the Black Army, Sabahese volunteers pour into the military (+10 battalions).

Loyalty amongst remaining Sinhalese vassals is increased.

Spotlight:

War in Anatolia.

"Never before have so many soldiers been assembled by both sides."
- Chronicles of Judea. Year 1308 CE.

Year 1308 was to be decisive year of the Anatolian Campaign, it seemed. The Khazars, commanded by Ioseph Peres, and the Byzantines, commander by Nikephorus Konstati, have prepared for it well. The Byzantines had superior firearms, tactics and organization... but the Khazars had the advantage of armored chariots, numbers... and religious zeal.

Over 200,000 Khazars, Judeans, Persians have assembled to fight a Byzantine force of roughly 70,000. The outcome of the campaign seemed to be never in question by the Khazar commanders. It seemed a matter of "when", not "if"...

As the year started, the massive Itzhakist army continued its westward advance. However, soon enough, they seemed to have faced a major Byzantine counteroffensive with massed artillery baragge. The Itzhakist forces prepared to give battle, not realizing it was a diversion until it was too late. Sort of. The Byzantine army had good organization, excellent disciplinne, capable leadership, technologic equality superiority in most areas, it carried out the plan perfectly, but there was one problem. It wasn't big enough. For a while, its succesful pocketing of the Itzhakist army caused Ioseph to panic and the Itzhakist offensive was stopped. However, when the Itzhakists realized their numerical superiorty, they managed to turn around and, despite taking large casualties due to the "Nicean Square" formation, the Sinhalese firearms and the competent use of artillery, reconnected their supply lines. Nikephorus was forced to fall back, and he did so in an organized manner, but that was not enough.

The Khazars managed to mobilize their population, and, though the Byzantine Georgian garrisons fought bravely in the mountain passes, here, too, the Byzantines were outnumbered and smashed. Soon after, Nikephorus and a large part of the remaining Byzantine forces were forced into a fighting retreat across half of Anatolia, eventually being cornered and besieged at Sinop.

But even that victory was not enough to satisfy the Khagan. Enraged by the Byzantine naval bombardment of Tmutahan (-1 Khazar economy), the Khazars skillfully maneuvered their fleet away from the few Byzantine ships not near Tmutahan, and landed near Constantinople, besieging it.

Is This The End Of The Byzantine Empire? (I Seem To Like Writing Stuff Like That Occasionally)

NPC Diplo:

From: Lombardia
To: Alexandrine Empire

I believe that we should redivide the Old Berberian territories.

From: Croatia
To: Britannia

We are outraged. Why did you not send help?

From: Shashlyk-Khan
To: Sinhalese Empire

What treachery is this?! Is this the way you reward your faithful vassals?! Is this because of Alatesh’s lies?!

From: Shashlyk-Khan
To: Ming China

I have been betrayed by the Sinhalese ruler. Perhaps he did it of his own intentions; perhaps somebody persuaded him to. I, however, would like to assure you that I did nothing that could be thought of as intentional treachery. I ask you for temporary political asylum.

From: Java
To: Sinhala, China, Sabah, Japan

Whoever of you supported this coup, know that we will not stand for such insolence.

From: Black Army
To: Sabah

We suggest that you pay us two economy levels... or else.

OOC:

Note that you can only mobilize once.

Erez, cannon towers are of serious use only in sieges. Otherwise, they are not very useful.

I hope I didn’t miss IceEye’s orders again.
