Netscape 7.01

opera is free as long as you put up with banners, and yes it does outclass every other browser I tried (I haven't tried 7.1 yet)

Right now I use both IE and NS7. The only problem with NS7 is that it takes up MUCH more system resources and loads MUCH longer than IE, since most IE components are already built into :satan:MS:flamedevi Windows.

And there are several web programming features, especially in Javascript, that are only supported by IE. W3C also tends to favor IE when setting new standards. :ack:
I try to program my sites to work with all browsers, fortunately NS7+ gained more compatibility again after the failure that NS6 was.

Opera is pretty fast, but it has a few features that annoy me and is missing others that I want. Yet I also use it.
:D

I often use Mozilla - which might be described as "the next version of Netscape you'll get, minus the commercial clutter". That's because Netscape browsers use the Mozilla engine. NN version 7 is based on 1.02 of Mozilla.

The Mozilla site is at http://www.mozilla.org/

all trash..

Phoenix is the best! :D it uses mozilla's rendering engine, but is a lot faster and lighter.

hmm, it's usually the other way round - IE usually decide to add their own features, which aren't part of the consortium's recommendations (e.g. scrollbar colors...)

Yes, that what I mean by W3C favoring IE´s features. We´ll probably see the scrollbar colors in the next CSS recommendation. Of course, W3C as every non-MS organization is not really trying to give IE this bonus, yet they can´t deny the huge market share IE has.
:D

OK, I was checking out some of the browsers mentioned and found that Opera 7 is in Beta. I've tried all the version since 3 or 4, and have never been quite satisfied and have returned to IE. Same with Netscape, and I've tried 7 - it's still just too slow and clunky. Mozilla seems barren (but quick), and Phoenix needs a compile/build which I don't want with a web browser.

I think Opera 7 is finally what I've been looking for! I'll give it the test of time (2 weeks) to see if I stick with it, or get so PO'ed that I uninstall it like most other browsers I've tried. But so far, it looks like they've fixed all of my previous complaints. I guess the banners will start when it's out of Beta, that may be a source of annoyance.

Anyone notice any +'s and -'s between Opera, Netscape, and IE? Previously I disliked the bookmark handling and page rendering of Opera, along with some minor things that made browsing annoying (I want my browser as close to transparent as possible).

Been using Netscape 7.0 for a few days and it seems pretty nice. I like the tabs and it seems to have no problems with formatting, unlike Opera when I tried that a few months ago.

The major gripe I have with NN (Netscape Navigator) is that it doesn't allow me to scroll by pressing in the middle button on my mouse.

check your "advanced" preferences.Wheel mice are supported.

always do a custom install with Netscape or you end up with all manner of stuff you don't want.

Opera is great for features but poor for performance.Inconsistant load times is my main beef. Some site are fast, some are brutally slow no matter what settings are used.

My mainstay has always been Mozilla for the most part. The latest build is loaded with features I want in a browser. So far, aside from MS itself,it works perfectly on every site I have visited.Add in plugins and Sun's Java lets me set it up the way I want.

Can't live without tabbed browsing now.Especially on my old fashioned dial up connection.

Really? I have always had great load speeds with Opera - it has proven to be much faster than IE 6 and NS 7 (for me at least)

I never really cared for Mozilla. I don't know why, but it doesn't really appeal to me.

I love Opera - the only quirk I have with it is that it doesn't save my passwords the same way IE can for websites. But that's not a huge deal since most sites use cookies for passwords anyhow.

I like the password manager for NN...it is nice to be able to delete passwords for one site and to also encrypt the file on your computer that contains the passwords.

@Smash
Unfortunately under Advanced -> Mouse Wheel there is nothing about when you push the middle button down and try to use that for quick scrolling. Try it in IE and see if you can also do it in NN.

Cornmaster´s Netscape 7.01 review mentioned above is now available in the latest release of our Gamecatcher Magazine. :yeah:

Just visit the Magazine main page and enjoy browsing through the mag. It does offer much more, though. :mischief:

Visit this thread for screenshots and more information.
