How about:
Ancient Age: Dirt Path with two stone huts flanking it.
Middle Ages: Perhaps a Cobble or Flagstone Path (Not too sure what road material was used in these dates) with perhaps wooden or wooden and stone buildings flanking it. Or just keep the previous graphic, perhaps replacing the road with a new one and maybe adding a Horse and Cart (Or Just a Cart) next to one of the buildings.
Industrial Age: Cobblestone Road, with the Buildings Rufus added for the new Toll Booth.
Modern Age: The new one by Rufus except maybe with the Yellow/Black Bar.

Nice toll houses. You should use Age of Mythology to make some new wonders, there some pretty good base art in that game.:)
