hmm,calm,calm down...this is not beyond the sword,nor is it a mod,its just a new version of Civilization4.

believe it or not, recently firaxis launches the chinese version of civilization4,after 1 year of the vanilla c4,with many interesting modifications.

the man in the illustration is named "Mr. Tang",just for a replacement of the original Maozedong.the tenor of the introduction tells us he is a total fantastic character and all the elements in this game about him and the civilization led by him(it is also claimed as a fantastic civilization LOL) is unreal and warn you not to make a corresponding guess with the real world.

in this version there is no chinese civilization,no mongolia civilization, all the civilizations is described as"fantastic"

interesting,isnt it?

Its because the Chinese government likes to censor everything that doesn't adhere to their narrow views. They would not tolerate Japan and Mongolia as being historically important in the game for example.

They banned the movie Memoirs of a Geisha in China, because it is set during war time (even though the war barely gets a reference). I suspect it is because it portrays the Japanese as normal people, instead of as the inhuman monsters they like to portray them as.

I can't believe Firaxis would do this. They have no honour.

I can believe they done it, China is big bucks in the gaming industry.

Just like Yahoo helped sell out an activist to the Chinese government. If they don't play ball, they don't get paid.

I find it horribly ironic that the current US Government will allow US corporations to go along with repressive regimes in order to profit...when they also piss away 100s of Billions of dollars invading a non-threat under the guise of 'bringing them freedom'.

If they really cared about 'freedom', my government would AT LEAST put the smack down on companies cooperating with repressive regimes.

Ugh...now I've started my day in a bad mood. Gotta stop thinking about the lies and hhypocrisies of my government.

thats contratikting that Commie china censors everything in the media and public, as in an above post.

Its china, live with it. hehe :)

...'fantastic civilizations'.. hah... Firaxis is soo funny these days.

Oh, my. Is it REALLY done by Firaxis? Well, Chinese regime IS autoritarian, but I did not imagine the current Chinese goverment to be so hypocritical. I feel sorry for chinese people. :( That stuff looks like some kind of hoax, really...

BTW, why did they change Qin's robes? He does not look less chinese in black robes - in fact, the imperial color of Qin WAS black! Interesting reskins, through. I wonder how did they reskin European leaders (or are they not allowed in the censored game even in reskinned form?)

I would not be shocked at all if it's a rip-off of the game... It's pretty common in china.

Yeah, I think it IS a rip-off, probably.

But why would people ripping off the game go to the trouble of reskinning Mao and Qin, yet not bother with Genghis too? It's pretty clear that it's state-imposed censorship, so presumably it is an official release. Pretty shameful really.

I'm sorry, but I'm not understanding two things:

What civs are in there?
And what civs are Mr. Tang, Mr. Qin and "Horaelock" the leaders of?

It would be interesting to look at other "fantasy" leaders. Are only Mao and Qin reskinned?

why are they (mao and qin) reskinned?if they are great leaders i think the chinese government should be proud of them

Well, current Chinese goverment simply does not want you to be able to raze all Chinese cities of AI Mao to the ground and eliminate him from the game.

BTW: Qin's Imperial color was black, not yellow, I think... so reskinned Qin looks more like "real" Qin than the standard Civ4 one.

And are all the countries in that release are treated in such a way? Or it is only the case with China, Mongolia, and Japan?

Disney had to pay China grandly to be able to sell Mickey Mouse in China. You know why? Because Mickey has four fingers. It seems to be OK if you pay enough money.

When Oddworld Entertainment was going to sell the Oddworld games in China, they too had to pay. But you know what Oddworld Entertainment did? They chopped a finger off the mudokons!

I understand why people think its bad that firaxis is applying censorship but think of it this way:
Better for the chinese people to have a censored version which will get modded back in about a day, then for them to get nothing.

If this is the only way 1/5th of the world's population get to play civ 4, then who cares! It's not like changing a few civ details is exactly the worst thing ever enacted by a non-democratic government. Companies, esp. small ones like Firaxis have to obey the governments they deal with, the Federal govt in the US, the British govt in the UK, the Chines govt in China, etc.

Anyways, if this is real, can we get the new leaders please? After all, why waste all this good work! :D
