From what I've heard, it will be 1 civ and not 2. In that respect, the Israelis are definetly one of, if not, the best choices.
But why the love affair with aboriginal australia I will never understand. So Australia is empty. Big deal. That just means you place a bunch of barbarian tribes throughout it. It's better than having a civ that barely got past the stone age controlling a whole damn continent and becoming a super power by the middle age. Thankfully, the wise people at Firaxis seem to have enough sense not to include them in there.
Same goes for the Polynesians. That whole arguement about the Paciffic being empty without them makes no sense. The Paciffic is ALREADY EMPTY. There is NOTHING in there. On even the most detailed and largest of world maps, you'd be hard pressed to find more than tiny one square islands in the place (Except perhaps for Hawaii, which would take the civ about 200 turns to discover). Common. And then you have the same problem as the Aborigenees. What will the Polynesian AI do? Why, he'll take his early naval unit UU, discover Australia, colonize it before anyone else, and become a superpower when in real life they were nothing of the sort.
The Goths also puzzle me. You already have the Germans, French, Spanish, Celts in that entire region. Not only that, but some of those before mentioned civs are in fact descendants of the goths. What have the Goths ever done that puts them ahead of the cultures that came from them? There are much more important European civs to add, such as the Hungarians, or Poles. But another European civ is the last thing we need. If however, any European civ is needed, it's the Poles. Russia was always the most powerul Slavic country, but Poland is probably second. Not only do the Poles have historical importance but they actually fill a practical void between Germany and Russia while
managing to obtain pretty much the same power they had throughout history , unlike some other civs I know.
The Scots are an interesting choice. They've certainly accomplished a lot and are well known. But in the end I don't see why they deserve to be a civ any more than Hungary or Poland. I'll say this though. I wouldn't mind replacing the Celts with the Scots... more specific and more interesting. Besides Calgacus, you already have a leaderhead the surpasses even the original Firaxis ones in quality, and an amazing custom unit. Other civs dont have either one.
Yeah there's definetly a void north of the zulus, but there's no point in filling it with some hardly known civilization, when both the Malis and the Eithopes/Abyssians are much more important, and would cover HUGE currently unpopulated regions of the continent.
Releas the Hungarians, not the Austro-Hungarians. Those guys totally ****ed up the Balkans, helping lay the seeds for many of the regions current problems. Besides, Poles had just as much territory...
I prefer the Mali towards the Songhai, even though they both covered what was essentially the same region.
In mz opinion the following are the civs that deserve consideration for this last spot (From least necessary, to most needed):
5. Ethiopes
4. Mali
3. Poles
2. Israelis
1. Khmers/Siamese (One of the two)
