Portugal, a civ that colonized many parts of the world not being influential??? ..... Portugal has been more influential than the zulus or iroquois.

I agree world cup is better suited. But when the world cup only has 24 teams, Australia was not in it.(only once) And if you compare Australia's soccer skills and Aborigines' cultrual achievements, you'll see that Aborigines don't deserve it at all.
It's true Iropuois and Zulu don't deserve to be in the game. Zulu itself is a very 'modern' civ, they are in only because they are more familiar to the British. Maya and Incas are far more civilised than Iroquois, Iroquois is in the game just because they are more closely related to the US. So yeah, British and Americans, what can you do? It's an English game.

I think that the Hebrews shoiuld take a role as a civilization. Israel may not be very large in the modern world, but in ancient times they were a very influential peole. They were also one of the first people to worship a single god. Either Isreal, or Judea should be a civ. And a world wonder could be Solomon's Temple in Jerusalem.

We need Incans. Presently if you play Marla Singer's world map all real starting locations, the Aztecs get all of Central and South America. They sometimes even get a large chunk of North America. This make them very powerful and influencial in the western half of the world. If Incans arrive they'll rule South America keeping the Aztecs in check.

And about an Italian civ, I stick to my guns. Italians are represented well enough by Romans. There is a definite cultural and ethnic continuity between the two, however much has changed over the last 2000 years.

Please tell me, why exactly do you think that the Polynesians should, in principle, be a civilization while the Aborigines shouldn't?

The Polynesians were a civilization who colonized all of the large islands in the Pacific Ocean, a notable feat of navigation. They had farming, several forms of government, and traded over quite long distances. The Aborigines were neolithic hunter-gatherers who were ignorant of the wheel and whose only domesticated animal was the dog.

But compared with the mainstream Old World civilizations, the difference between the two is negligible. Both are equally backward. The strengths that both have, in my opinion, is their cultural distinctiveness. One cannot deny that the Aborigines are as or more distinctive than any other culture in the planet. They definitely deserve consideration.

The Celts are historically appealing, and, actually, were pretty important. Military technology which revolutionalized classical warfare, superlative metallurgical skills, never mind the fact that Celtic christians saved Europe in the Dark Ages.

The Koreans invented printing and possibly the stirrup. But their commercial value, of course, was much more important
