From UberFrog's screenshot, which I think he alluded to it being a tercio...

I don't believe so. The one in the center has the mortars with them, while the ones in the upper corner do not. Now, is it possible that the unit only has them when firing and they magically disappear when they're not firing? I guess. But are there other units that animate significantly differently than their passive appearance? It‘s the same unit, no?

250 vs 240 isn't a big difference, but muskets already have a bonus vs them too. Although Muskets do come sooner, they do require the resource, whereas the pike+shot is resourceless. I could see a strategy for these actually as building a lot of cheap spearmen, and then using the 50% discount on upgrade to get an army of pike+shots. Especially if you lack the resources, that's probably the most efficient way to get a melee unit in this line.
Not during the Dark Age itself though it would appear:

Yes they are which is why the Dark Age policies have replaced the normal Wildcard ones, makes sense that you can't get bonus GP points in a Dark Age.Fairly sure the player is infact in a Dark Age in that shot.
Oh - good point! They just researched Political Philosophy in that game. There are no wildcard policies available because they just haven't researched any yet.
The fact that they did not show Tamar might mean that she is getting redesigned, which is very good news!
Well emergencies seems kinda crap , especially rewards both for winning and losing , kinda rejecting it is best thing to do. Another reason why emergencies gonna suck even more...YOU have to do all the work coz allies or enemy AI to stupid to do anything.
They did. They also had old Seondeok. The fact that they did not show Tamar might mean that she is getting redesigned, which is very good news!
Yeah I foresee the AI regularly failing to accomplish anything with emergencies. Emergencies against the player could end up being passive boosts for the player just because the AI doesn't do anything.Well emergencies seems kinda crap , especially rewards both for winning and losing , kinda rejecting it is best thing to do. Probably nothing happens if noone joins. No bonuses meted out. It could be possible for someone to have to go alone against the instigator though.so what happens if you don't join an emergency? you won't get the bonus of course, but if the players who joined the emergency lose, the one causing it still benefits? what happens if no one joins the emergency?
