1. Who was the chief commander of the Theban army at the battles of Leuctra and Mantineia?
2. What was the name of Peter the Great's Scottish general-in-chief?
3. What was the name of the famous Roman Greek biographer used by Shakespeare for several of his plays, including Julius Caesar and Coriolanus?
4. Hermann von Salza was Grand Master of which order of knights between 1210 and 1239?
5. What general, who came to be known as "the last of the Romans", commanded the Roman and Visigothic army that defeated the Huns at Catalaunian Fields (Châlons-sur-Marne)?
I have no idea. Maybe it's because I'm an ignorant, ill-educated American. A google search didn't turn anything up either. Is it just me, or is this question very obscure? In any case, you stumped me, Kasperus.
OK, it was maybe a bit difficult. it is that I`m just reading a book about Russian history for my study and russian-dutch relations are quite an important part in it obviously. But if you don`t know much about the matter you will not be able to answer the question I.
Anyway, Andrey Matvejev was the guy. He was one of Peter the Great`s confidants who was sent to the Netherlands right after Peters famous visit to Zaandam. it was also the first permanent Russia ambassade in western europe.
Well, an easier question about Dutch-Russian relations as well.
All know of course that Peter the Great visited the Netherlands (especially the great city of Zaandam ). It would take a while till another tsar visited the Netherlands (and yes, again Zaandam...). Well, which tsar visited the Netherlands and Zaandam after Peter?
