FGN Online has posted a dozen Civ3 screenshots. Although most of these screenshots are already revealed in other previews, they are of higher quality. For example, units on this main map screen are very distinguishable. There are also 2 new leader portraits: one looks like a Native American tribe leader and the other one is a Japanese leader (Some people say he's Mongol but the pavilion in the background and the tall black hat he wears suggest he's a Japanese leader... I could be wrong). Check out these quality screenshots.

The main screen graphics look really crisp and nice.

I still don't know why Firaxis are going to all the effort on the pretty graphics for the leaders. Do you care about that TF? I know I don't.

It's quite legitimate and understandable.
It's for marketing of course. Try and think: how can you sell a product with minimalistic graphics. They need them to promote the product. Otherwise they would just sell Civ3 with Civ1 graphics. Would you buy that ?

yes

Unfortunately, there are marketing forces involved here. P.S. I wouldn't mind seeing the old leaders faces from Civ I, not even revamped. But I don't think the Heralds do much.

Now what would be nice is giving players in an mp game the ability to give themselves a face in the kings chat or its civ 3 equivalent. It would just make bartering a little more interesting

(Not important of course, but would be nice)

Nice idea 'drake'! Although why restrict it to mp. Have the ability to add a face based on a photograph of anyone you like (may not be technically feasible?). Of course it's not important in the way the game plays, but just imagine the satisfaction you could get from demanding tribute from another Civs emissary (herald) that had the face of the boss/teacher/bully-from-down-the-street or whoever it is giving you grief in real life - could be fun!

Well, it is understandable that they put in some nifty graphic in the game to make it look modern. Whilst I sure don't complain about better graphics I would buy the game no matter how it looked quite frankly...

As for the portrait ideas they are nice and all, but I can live just as much without them as with. Though admittedly it would be amusing to sit and make faces in front of the ol' webcam and have them portray your different feelings of my leader...

Excellent idea for mulltiplayer to put you own face up.

With my fearsome and ugly mug on some geezers computer diplomatic relations would be heavily in my favour, with my opponent agreeing to anything just to get rid of that face!
