new patch is on its way: 1.0.1.275, released April, 28th

Songhai / Conquistador per chance?

animation did activate when I sunk a songhai settler and horseman unit. both died however.

However, I also got the animation vs. Egyptian knights. 40% health. apparently repeatable.

Mustkets , axe and other military units went poof as before.

I'm looking foward to what the 'much requested feature' is.

Hey, maybe it's an entirely new game....nah, probably not.

Now let me balance that with something positive, encouraging and absolutely gushing!
j/k...can't think of anything...

I know it's sacrilege to disparage Civ 5 but...patches won't fix this game...

I can't take a 'patch' seriously that doesn't involve nuking this ridiculous 1UPT nonsense...I'm just sayin. ;)

Moderator Action: Please stay on topic. That thread is about the patch, not about trashing the game. Such comments without any arguments are considered spam, so please don't make them if you can't add anything.

And, for what reason do you post, exactly ?

Honestly: If you dislike 1UPT, then Civ5 is not the game for you. That's pretty much all there is to it.

So no, a patch will not fix the game... for you.

Also: I really fail to see how a request to keep a patch discussion thread actually about patch discussion, rather than groaning about perceived flaws that will never be "fixed", is trolling. Pretty well ridiculous mod action, if you ask me, and one of the reasons I rarely post here now.

Finally spent a lot of hours over the weekend playing almost a complete game with the new patch, in 1970s right now on an EPIC - large continent plus map - modified to allow city states on regular land mass and no game play mechanics changes except making research a tad more expensive and giving the AI a free worked at start and removing research aggrements.

Amazing changes after the latest patch. I dont think I ever have enjoyed a CIV game this much since playing civ1 or civ2. AI is capable and I had lots of great battles, I really had to work to keep up and avoid being destroyed. I had to reload at one time after being atomic bombed into submission, I had to re-loaded and accept and very expensive peace to give me time to get some bombs of my own.

Excellent work by however worked on the tactical AI for the last patch, its not perfect but definetly a challange and fun. I love how the game plays and the tactics of one unit per turn and the use of terrain. Cant wait to start a new game, might remove the free worker for the AI the next time as I am way behind the front runner in tech and military units.

:) what difficulty level do you play on? :)

Emperor - Just lost to Polynesia - UN vote. I just could not keep an city states on my side, I started the game by conquering two of them so I guess that was my misstake I should have killed more of them :). If you start attacking them better wipe most of them out or they will vote against you in the UN vote. I was at the same time weakened by a war against Polynesia and France attacked and took out my oil with a large army. I was toast anyway, but I had a lot of fun and as a sign off I dropped two big atomic bombs on Polynesia just because. :)

I did two misstakes, annexed to many of my cities, did not explore the oceans, focused to much on getting culture and not enough on city growth and science. I also intially pissed off most of my neighbours.

Starting a new game tonight. I will focus on population growth and science, and be less inclined to annex specially in the early game, that said no peace with pesky city states my next games goal is to destroy them all. :)

By the way I recommend the continent plus maps, personally I edited the files to remove the changes to citystate placement, its at the end of the map script file.

Your post has made me decide to play Civ 5 again for the first time in a while. I haven't played since before the late April patch.

What are the continents plus maps? Is that something that was added in the latest patch? I usually always play on a regular continents map. How is continents plus different from regular continents? Thanks in advance.

A continents plus map adds some small islands around the continents and also does something with CS placement. There are notes in the forum and other online locations about the specifics. I play continents plus now instead of continents.

Funny how they keep releasing small fixes but never seem to address the really important ones. Unless they are not making much progress on what really matters, which would not surprise me at all.

They release small fixes because they feel, as many of us do, that the game is fundamentally sound. All it needs are the bugs fixed and balance improvements. There will be major changes made to the game and its mechanics upon release of expansions, which I understand may begin around the holidays this year.

Can you be more specific? I've found plenty of patches in the past have made big fixes (such as changing happiness and adding new buildings to discourage ICS). This patch made small changes because it's only half of a two-part patch. The other half is the big changes, iirc.

The continent plus is part of the DLC map pack. Its bascially better generatad continents maps with lots of small islands and in the default form it put all the city states on islands.

Btw if you are coming back you have to check or Garamonds earth map, I hope I spelled his name right , I was floored what this guy have acomplished. Its a custom game with lots of new city states and options on how to generate the earth map. Like resource placement, starting locations etc. We had nothing like this in CIV4, and it shows how easy it actually is to modify CIV5 if you know what you are doing.

Another thing to look at is the unoffical patch mod.

Has there been any more information released about what might be in an expansion? I'm eagerly looking foward to a CiV expansion! I agree that the game is fundamentally sound, but I think it could definately use some new features to enrich it. Thanks in advance.

The continents plus map sounds perfect, only I wonder why they decided to put ALL of the city-states off of the main continents. I'd probably like at least 2/3s of them on the main continents (like in reality).

I agree with you. Compared to a twice expanded CiIV, it is a bit simplistic. I enjoy the game, but I am looking forwrd to expansions and new features to learn. One of the moderators made a casual mention of a holiday expansion, but he/she didn't elaborate further.
