New SimCity on the way!

As a strong fan of the Simcity series, all I can say is that they finally put a nail in the coffin and the concept of Simcity is dead.

This new 'Simcity Societies' is nothing more than a dumbed down merge of The Sims with City Life. The Sims is where the money is and unfortunately they are trying to dumb down and flog off this new crappy version without a concern for the legion of Simcity fans.

Imagine if Firaxis announced that the Civ 5 would be a simpified version of civ 4, have only a hand full of units and civs as the complex 3d engine no longer allows game play or modding complexity. I am sure a lot of civ fans would pick up pitch forks and go pillaging ;)

EA's killing Maxis. It's tragic, really.

Where'd you get the information on that society thing?

Hmm I can't wait to get new information on this new sim city.

I've played all sim citys from the one on the SNES.
Loved them all.

I really don't know what to expect though. Those posts by that guy seem kind of.. strange, like it won't have the same feel as other sim cities. And plus if it isn't maxis anymore.

I guess we can't make hasty judgements though :)

I'll probably check it out regardless of how it turns out though.
Can't just turn your back on a series like that. ;)

If you go past Simtropolis.com you will see endless complaining about the demise of the Simcity series.

It seems another company has jumped on the 'full 3d gaming experience over gameplay' wagon. Most companies today are addicted to fully 3d games like a junky on crack!

When are they going to realise that 3d just does not allow the same level of detail and require a computer the size of a rig to run fast!

I struggle with simcity 4 and I have a very high spec computer right now....and dont get me started on Civ 4 obsession on using fully 3d environment and low poly models

Well I wouldn't complain just yet until I've actually played the game. There's nothing we can do now... but pray... :(

Oh no... they're going to ruin it aren't they... they'll take out the richness and realism and we'll be left with some good awful cartoony 'sims-esque' lowest common denominator crap. Simcity was my first great strategy love. Damn you EA, damn you to hell.

(Of course the proof is in the pudding).

Hey could any of you that play Sim City 4 post some screenshots of your cities?
I always like looking at sim city cities. I'll post some of mine if anyone else participates. But I've got a good amount of custom buildings in my cities :)
One of my cities takes forever to load, and forever to play the simulator :( I suppose that is part of the reason why I stopped playing.

Sim 4 is nice. The only thing I can't stand is traffic and comuting

Theres low pollution, econonmy booming, high rises rising from the city commercial centre but there will always be @#$% traffic and even more annoying commute time and the people will lose their jobs and my nice condos get "burnt" and blacken. Irritating
Another annoying this is getting the Lazy sims to use the Mass Transit system .

Just like real life! :D

Yeah.
How can we expect our sims to ride the bus when we won't get anywhere near one ourselves

If I'm not mistaken, there's some sort of formula that basically poor sims will favor mass transit and rich sims will avoid mass transit. Damn rich bastards:mad:

Exactly as in real life. However, buses ARE the way to go, as are subways, for me at least. I don't own a car, so yeah. I don't have use for a car, unless I need to waste money on gas or need to go somewhere far, which my family friends take me anyway.

Busses usually work. They occasionally fail, but not nearly as much as subways do. With subways, it's a hit and miss. Most sims aren't keen when I open stations in useful places, and prefer to either keep to the road, or on the old system.

On topic, I'll be very disappointed if the Sim City series dies, though I do love the Sims. I hope they actually design advisors this time that don't annoy the hell out of me.
