New terrain features

I am not liking the mushroom resource being farmed. It just doesn't make sense on the map. Perhaps make it a hunting camp line instead? Also the truffles event should be tied to the mushroom event.

Note My man plan for the next week is:-
1) Cottage line improvement balance including new "homesteads" improvement at sedentary lifestyle which upgrades to hamlets
2) Change all resources that are currently features back into resources ie coconuts, dates etc.
3) Tidy up the improvements to remove duplicates now that the tech tree has changed and when resources are reveled and enabled has changed.
4) Get a spreadsheet working for the map resources and improvement upgrades and tech changes.

I had some ideas for mushroom city vicinity buildings.

Gathered Mushrooms
- White Truffle Gatherer = Mushrooms + Pigs
- Black Truffle Gatherer = Mushrooms + Obsidian
- Bolete Gatherer = Mushrooms + Apples
- Chanterelle Gatherer = Mushrooms + Lemons
- Pine Mushroom Gatherer = Mushrooms + Prime Timber
- Hedgehog Mushroom Gatherer = Mushrooms + Bison
- Morel Mushroom Gatherer = Mushrooms + Almonds
- Coral Tooth Mushroom Gatherer = Mushrooms + Flax
- Shaggy Parasol Mushroom Gatherer = Mushrooms + Squash

Cultivated Mushrooms
- Button Mushroom Farm = Mushrooms
- Portobello Mushroom Farm = Mushrooms + Grapes
- Shiitake Mushroom Farm = Mushrooms + Fish
- Shimeji Mushroom Farm = Mushrooms + Silk
- Enokitake Mushroom Farm = Mushrooms + Spices
- Oyster Mushroom Farm = Mushrooms + Pearls
- Snow Fungus Farm = Mushrooms + Bananas
- Corn Smut Farm = Mushrooms + Corn
- Paddy Straw Mushroom = Mushrooms + Rice
- Cauliflower Mushroom = Mushrooms + Cotton

Poison and/or Drugs
- Death Cap Mushroom Gatherer = Mushrooms + Olives
- Fly Agaric Gatherer = Mushrooms + Deer
- Magic Mushroom Gatherer = Mushrooms + Hemp

I was also thinking we could have a Fungiculture tech.

As you can see there are a lot of mushrooms and fungi to make. :D

OK the "Idea Guy" is working or time again i see;)

I am really liking these ideas, i dont know so much about the word Magic in the poison area though. Infact more poisonous ones would be nice also.

Just like in my own yard, i had a HUGE tree cut down, and the city put in the ground and seed into the empty area that was there, lets say it was a 6' X 4" wide hole but only like 3' deep, and i'll give you one hint what the heck is NOW growing there and by the tons . . . . (of course) Mushrooms  The whole area is covered with them.

You can call them "Magic Mushrooms" or "Shrooms" take your pick. They are the mushrooms that get you high. I also would rather not use the scientific names since they are even worse to say than the common names.

It might sound weird but you do farm mushrooms today. Please don't tie it into an improvement line that most assuredly is wrong. It works differently than the run-of-the-mill farm we are all mostly used to but it's still called farming.
A big difference though is that mushrooms require whatever feature is on the plot, removing any feature would change the natural habitat and most likely kill of the fungi.
If keeping it as a resource then if anything maybe make it an own improvement line; Mushroom Picker, Mushroom Harvester, Mushroom Farm, Hydroponic Mushroom Farm, where only Hydroponic actually removes any feature it is built on.
The best solution, in my opinion, would be to make it like the resource features we have now, as a feature (which can be a Tall Grass one, a flat-lands/hills one, a Forest one, and a Jungle one), and later on, during the Modern Era, the resource could be gained in a city via a building, Fungi Farm, even if no Mushrooms exist in City Vicinity.

Just my two pennies worth.

Cheers

Exactly my point. Currently you "farm" mushrooms in the same way you farm wheat. That is what I am not liking.

Fly Agaric is listed right above it. There are different species of Haucengenic mushrooms. Fly Agaric are the ones commonly related to Santa and his flying reindeer due to it growing in deer poop. Its also why his suit is red.

His suit is red because Coke-Cola made it that way.:mischief: It is green or red-brown in many European traditions.

Just an idea I had... if huge numbers of units are slaughtered on the same square over a small number of turns it should have a chance to generate a 'resource' called ancient battlefield. It wouldn't be visable until say archiology, but what it does is generate :gold: on the square until you improve it and the it adds :science: at the cost of :gold:. It just seems bizarre that hundreds if not thousands of people are offed from a stack of doom and there is no evidense of it.

You'd also need to make sure that at least two ages have passed before the bonuses mattered much. The more ages ago the 'improvement' was generated the better the bonus.

Interesting idea, and one I have almost implemented for sea battles. The problems are:-
- It can't be a resource because if it was it could not happen on a plot with another resource.
- It can't be a feature because it will replace any other feature on the plot.
- Same with improvement.

However. AIAndy is looking at allowing multiple features per plot so we may be able to do this in the future. It will still have problems eg do you want the titanium (resource) on the plot or do you want the ancient battlefield? Teaching the AI will be difficult. ;)

Absolutely true.

Numerous parallels have been drawn between Santa Claus and the figure of Odin, a major god amongst the Germanic peoples.
Before the Coca-Cola ads ''popularized'' red as the color of Santa's suit, he was often depicted in green, though also in red, brown, and white. Green was the traditional color of the British Father Christmas (remember the Spirit of Christmas Present in ''A Christmas Carol''?). Also, green, as in "evergreens," was traditionally associated with the winter solstice season.

The parallels are drawn, yes, but Oden is not a god amongst the Germanic peoples, only a small part of them, namely the Scandinavian peoples.
Oden (Odin is an English derivative) isn't just a major god, he is the All-Father of the Nordic Mythology, or Asatro (Asatru in the game), the religion of the Vikings.
In fact the word Yule and the timing of the Christmas Tradition in Christianity comes from the Scandinavians refusal to abandon their Jul-blot celebration when Christianity was adopted in Scandinavia. The Christian church used the same dates and made their own holiday so that the "heathens" in Scandinavia wouldn't abandon Christianity, letting them have their celebration though now tinged with Christian flavour too.
Since then the Asatro part is basically gone though the julbock tradition (goat made of straw being burned on the day) is still used in some parts of Scandinavia.
It's because the tradition originally came from the Asatro, with Oden as the All-Father, that historians believe that Oden was the original Santa Claus.

Mmm. Felt I had to say that though if I stepped on any toes I apologise.

Cheers

I was just quoting what it said in the Wiki:

Influence of Germanic paganism and folklore, about 1/4 of the way down the page.

@DH, I always thought that shipwrecks in shallow water should have a chance of spawning a reef... that or the ability to sacrifice a later than wood out dated ship with an upgrade available to spawn your own reefs.

Well... it could be a feature.. but then you'd have to make a new tile for every type of terrian... and that would set a trend. I'm sure that would work, but it would be a bit of work for someone. Could add multiple features that way... but it'd be an insane amount of tiles unless you made a nonstandard tile and just recycled the same special version of said tile. Difference only show up on mouse over.

I think it would be more an issue for an in city building anyway... like fossils only less old. It's just only buildable if the terrian is in city worked square.

There are many "Santas", some with brown suits too. In fact I saw a whole display of all the types of Santas (and Black Peter too) at the mall once as a kid. It was cool. Anywho a quote from wikipedia ..

Fly agarics appear on Christmas cards and New Year cards from around the world as a symbol of good luck. The ethnobotanist Jonathan Ott has suggested that the idea of Santa Claus and tradition of hanging stockings over the fireplace is based centrally upon the fly agaric mushroom itself. With its generally red and white color scheme, he argues that Santa Claus's suit is related to the mushroom. He also draws parallels with flying reindeer: reindeer had been reported to consume the mushroom and prance around in an intoxicated manner afterwards.

Oh yes, I have the reef idea in there. ;) I was also thinking of explorers, adventurers or ship equivalents being able to loot them.;)

Now that is a great idea, but would that have to be a python file then?
