Here a first try to create a terrain MOD Pack. As can be seen on the screenshots, I haven't finished it yet, stuff like rivers, forrests and other stuff are still missing, but I'd still like to hear your opinions on it so far.

As one can probably see I've borrowed a few things like coast shapes from Snoopy and Mountain shapes by Womok. I hope they don't mind, I thank them anyway for their work which inspired me to do this in the first place ;)

I will keep updating this post with added or changed stuff.

UPDATE: 30/12/2004

Increased the contrast of the plains forest a bit and remade the jungle...

UPDATE: 02/01/2005

Pretty much final now. I borrowed some stuff like irigation and railways from other modders and changed it a little so it fits the rest. I think it looks ok.
All that's left now is civilopedia icons. I'll try to finish those this upcoming week since after that work is going to take my time completely for some time again.
PS: Displayed Resource icons are not included in the files.

Here's the link to the files (The paths are not preset. I'll try to change that in the next zip. So far the files go to civ3/art/terrain, the files in the conquest dir go to civ3/conquest/art/terrain):

An amateur's opinion at best, but overall seems nice..

..the transitions between terrain types seems a touch stark (1st pic w/ transitions between desert->plains->grassland. The plains also seem a touch brown, seem to lack that 'alive' feel.

The mountains look sweet though, since I live up here in Montana, and the mountains up here seem rather acurate. Personally, I'd see more a mix of these, and the ones from Snoopy's modpack to give more 'flavor' to mountain chains.

The hills might be a touch hard to see, but for those with no problem, seem darn good.

The coast/sea/ocean tiles are more easy to differentiate than the snoopy ones. (My 'only' advise of 'that' mod pack...)

No complaints of the desert, looks nice.

Overall a B+ for consumed effort. =^^=

Looks great for a first try. I once tried making new terrain, I know how difficult it can be. I gave up because it was too much work, so I consider it quite a feat that you've completed this, let alone that you've done a good job too.

This pack seems.....African to me.

Good point. I agree.
hmm.... now wouldn't that be useful - terrain packs for different regions of the world.....

Hehe.. well yeah. I want to keep the first post up to date with screenshots. :) saw no reason to answer to anything by now :) My only question remains the same: What do you think ;)

Honestly looks a little dark for my tastes.

I think your new forest has some angle problems? They look a bit 2d and not 3d. Otherwise your terrain is very nice

I have slight color-blindness (blue-yellow axis) and I have to stare to resolve the difference between plains and grass. It looks way too dark, especially in contrast with the desert. So my suggestions would be to increase the contrast between the plains and grass, and make the hills easier to spot (maybe some rocky outcropping or something?)

bits are nice... certainly will d/l and carve bits up for myself :)

Those have 'got' to be the best snow covered mountians I've seen for a game of this genre.

The stark change between terrain still is an issue, but probably can't be helped.

The ocean tiles are better, but seem a touch flat.

Up to an A- now.. =^^=

New Tundra forest added now...

All seen above now included in the file.
Link in first post.

Btw.. can't take credit for the snow covering of the mountains. Those are completely copied and pasted from Womoks Modpack.. I think he was inspired from Heroes of Might and Magic or something...
