New Unit: Bronze Axeman (May 31, 2007)

Damn, nice to see Utah back! Good, unique unit, too. Will fill in the gaps for those civs w/o access to iron (poor bastards ...)

Wow...I hate to sound dumb, but... I really like this unit, but am not really sure where he fits in an epic game...

What time period is he from? (I know Bronze age, but where in the unit line?)

He would go between the warrior and the swordsman

wow....all i can say is wow.
this is one of the most beautiful units i have ever seen.

it is going into my mod right away...either as a unique Hyksos Axeman,
or a wonder-produced Greek mercenary.

this is truly a beautiful unit. i'm just in awe. seriously :D

For those who are interested, this kind of shield design was use in Greece / Persia, it allows riding a horse with the shield attached to the back (you put the "cut" part toward the bottom, where your mount is.

Well, the shiled and armour is a bit different, the weapon is used by many bronze Asian civilzations (Japan and China for sure, and so probably Korea and Mongolia too)

I am going to replace Utah's old Shang soldier with this one. In my game it is a warrior.

Frickin' eh, man! This unit rules! Wooooo-hooooo!

Thanks for the info Steph. I thought that it looked like a pelta but upside down. Although I also thought that he kind of looks like he's wearing 70s style NBA shorts so don't go by me. He looks great though.

Very nice work. The Bronze age is still much of a mystery, so it could be anything from that Era. From the mix of Egyptian and Hellenic items though I'd have to bet the best use would be as a Grecian Mercenary for the Egyptians, Egyptians hired a number of those. Hyksos would prolly be close as well.

Hello, everyone. I had a great weekend in Nürnberg. It's nice to come back to Mannheim and see so many comments about the unit. I'm glad that so many people like the unit so much! That's really cool. :)

And, thank you to those who have shared a little historical information about the unit and how it could be used in CivIII.

Wow - you live in Mannheim!??! I had a penpal there when I was at school and I visited him. It's a nice place; he lived on Herzogenstrasse, if you know it.

Back to the unit, I voted for it in the unit maker competition and am about to pop it into the mod.

Me too! :) Any sugestions for which civ to give it? Shiro sugested the Chinese, sounds good. Fictional ancient Korean maybe?
