New Unit: Future Roman Unit: Laser Legionary(8/7/2006)

I`m pretty sure the laser can be easily pasted, you used to be skilled with that, I remember that obsidian blade dude of yours, that was the first unit from the Sword_Of_Geddon productions I ever saw, and it was great :)

Its the lack of movement thats the problem.

i just looked through his units, and i'm fairly certain your thinking of my first unit...

Basic props are very easy to make. I haven't heard back from you... so I don't know if you still need my "laser" (basic cylinder) prop.
You really should download truespace. It is really easy to use. I whipped up these props in Truespace, then exported them into bryce, textured them within bryce and rendered them in just a few minutes.

not fine art, but it only took minutes to make. Being able to make at least a few small things for your units really makes things easier.
If you want these, or the laser "tube" let me know how you want me to get them to you and which format you want them in.

Poser can do cylinders. Look for them under props/primitives. Basically, you just need to create a cylinder, and then make it long and thin. Should work fine - in fact, I was going to suggest this myself before I read Bjornlo's post.

You can actually do some interesting things with just primitives. My Voodoo Doll consisted entirely of primitives (spheres and a cylinder) squashed into shape and tied together. Plus, Poser renders primitives extremely quickly, which is nice.

You should try making human units someday Bjorno

you have no idea how awkward humans are to do in bryce. today, after hours, i think i managed to get down a realistic run animation.. god was it hard..

Just popped in and read the comments... Sword, Bjornlo and Plotinus both have good and helpful advice concerning the Laser. You can use a cylinder and size it with the poser controls. You could use it as a prop and simply lengthen the cylinder as you want to fire the laser. Use the Poser dials. Experiment and look around more in poser...there are many features that will help you accomplish what you want easier than more time consuming, manual methods.

Animation Programs are complex and do have many features to learn in order to be able to do work more easily. We all have done things the Hard Way and then discover that we had the tools to do it easier all along but did not know it. Question what you are wanting to do then look for it because you probably already have the necessary "tools".

Your Units have gotten better and IMO just need a few simple changes or additions in your procedure such as Dropping the Units to the Floor. Some of the Slow Motion in animations not only come from the Flc speed being set too slow but generally from too many frames in the animation for very simple actions.

I have made humans. Many of my units include an animated crew. JSF, AWing, Death Glider, JS-3m, etc
But as Quinzy pointed out animating them in Bryce is a pain. Bryce is a great vehicle animator, but has no "posing" ability, including no magents, etc.
So far as I can recall, only Wyrmshadow as animated just humans with Bryce.
As you said, I do own Poser. I just haven't had the time to use it, and Bryce is faster to make the sorts of units I am most likely to want to make.
Bryce 6 will have the ability to import and render poser animations.. So who knows, maybe by that time I will be using poser (or Daz Studio) as well.
My problem right now is time. I just changed jobs, moved from Seattle (renton) to Norway, bought a house, etc... much to do little time to do it.
I don't have the time to make any units in Bryce right now, so I certainly don't have the time to make anything in Poser (which would involve learning yet another app first).
To make simple props like those I showed takes no time. I think I spent nearly as long typing this email. This is why I was encouraging you to add a basic modeler like Truespace to your bag of tricks.

yeah, primitives are great! i love modelling in bryce with primitives!
It is fun and easy. Bryce 6 will allow you to export them as a 3ds (OBJ, LOW, etc) In the meantime, you might wanna check out Truespce 3.2. Very basic modeler. Not very powerful, but powerful enough. The modeler can be used in a way very similar to Bryce. It can only save in COB format, but Bryce can import COB.

i'M in your debt Odin....

Thats the pcx storyboard, all you need to do is add the lasers and send it back to me, and I can turn it into a flc, or you can do that yourself if you know how to which I have a feeling you do friend. :)
