New Unit: Pole Slinger

The Carthaginian Army under Hannibal used pole slingers against the Romans. This unit looks good.
Pole slingers or Balearic slingers? I have no clue, but I thought it was the latter rather than the former.

utahjazz, when are you going to you have your computer back? I have a request for you: a modification of this unit. (and I'm waiting for the lancer, of course)

Well, right now, I'm at the airport in Detroit, MI waiting for a connecting flight to Toledo, OH. I should be home in about two hours or so. I've started rendering the units that I was working on this summer, but I haven't finished the animations for the lancer yet. It's kind of tricky. I'll finish it sometime though. The shadow problem seems to be solved.

Great! You know, the release of the expansion pack of my mod is postoponed to when I have 2 units from you and one from DonPedro.
My 2nd requests for you is this unit with:
-an iron helmet instead of that cap
-no shield on his back
-a piked mace (the one that Medieval Infantry has) attack (the animation seems the same).
-you can resize the frame, as the sling is not need anymore

Hmm . . . I'll think about it. It'll be a while though, so I'm not sure it's a good idea that your mod is dependant on this request . . . or the lancer.

WHat do people think about adding a weak (1) bombard capability to this guy? I was thinking particularly during the attack of a city. How would I pull that off?

@Bjornlo: He's new, and he is asking a relevant question. It's stoopid bumping that's frowned on, not this.

@ csep: If you want to add a "defensive bombard" (I think that's what you mean), you go into the editor and give the unit a defensive value but a range of zero (firepower will be irrelevant, although you may need to give it at least 1). That way the unit will bombard once per turn if the stack it's in is attacked.

The pole sling, or staff sling, was a common weapon of Thrace. It was used by lightly armored infantry, called Peltasts. Peltasts would rush on to the battlefield, throw their stone or javelin, and then run away.

To be honest . . . no, not really.

Someone could do a cut-n-paste, but I don't think I'll do anything like this again.

I wish I had time to read lately. I've gotten heavily into map making and beta testing. :crazyeye:
