New Unit: Viking Swordsman

Maybe that's just your perspective...Sure, Vikings were tall, but I believe they have a balanced build, so even though they're tall, they appear at a distance as stocky...Any Vikings out there who could comment?:viking:

utahjazz7, I hope you don't mind that I shrunk this guy to 85% of the original size. This make him the same size as the other dwarf units available, and make a good dwarf swordsman, IMO.

Download the runt!

The zip includes a modified .INI, and the original pcx's.

Excellant job, utah!

Is there any chance we could see a "cheaper" Viking warrior (possibly using the same model?) with a simple tunic, white pants, and round shield with a short Danish axe?

Im thinking we now have the bear shirt, and the jarl, now we need some fyrdmen to round out them out. What say ye?:viking:

Great unit, utah! :goodjob:

That the Vikings were tall is a relative truth - they were tall compared to most contemporary Western Europeans, but not very tall by the standards of the modern West.

An article on average heights thru the centuries I rad a while ago gave 1.75m as average adult male height for 10th C Swedes. (That's about five centimetres less than the modern average).

For the metrically challenged, that's roughly 5'9".

There are many medieval writings describing some of the Norse as Giants ... though in those days, "Giant" meant you were at least six feet tall.

My parents are Danish, and I was 6'4 WHEN I WAS BORN!

I feel sorry for your mother.

So do I

Anyways... In-game I’m using Utah’s Viking Swordsman as a ‘Scandinavian Leidang’, the official ‘Berzerk’ is still used, but renamed ‘Scandinavian Viking’.

Two longboats would be nice. Then you could have one for the Scandinavians and one for the Balts and/or Anglo-Saxons. :mischief:

Yes...I'd like to know this too...:hmm::crazyeye:

Of course, there are always some people who're taller than average and some shorter. Otherwise it wouldn't be an average. And in those days, a tall fellow surely had better odds at becoming a dreaded Viking that his shorter brethren - physical size does count in hand-to-hand combat.

Tell that to the Dwarf unit makers!
