New Unit: Viking Swordsman

Med. Infantry - ???
Warrior - ???

You could use the norman armour unit. Sorry I don't have a link to it, I never bother to copy it and can't search for it now. I really would like to see a Viking Warrior unit. Someone with an axe or something. I would have him upgraded to the Viking Swordsman.

I think your unit is great and muchly needed. Its easy to call someone a giant when there kicking your ass.

Yeah, they also exaggerated a lot back then, especially if they lost .

BTW: Great unit. I think the Vikings need more units.

...

Guy: I swear he was six feet, no er six and a half feet tall!

Louis: No, he had to be at least seven feet if he was a foot!

Guy: Yeah, he was seven feet tall or I'm a bloody Irishman!!

Louis: Yeah, seven feet tall for sure.

 If he is Irish, most people seem seven feet tall.
BTW: I'm part Irish and speaking of 7. I have to go get my seven course meal for tonight. A 6-pack and a potatoe.
I'm also 5 feet 9 inches tall and I'm one of the tallest guys in my family.:D

 I'm 1/4 Irish, 1/4 English, and 3/8 Sweedish (which is 1/4 and 1/8 for those of you who can't do math well .) Also, I'm 5' 11", not that tall unless you consider the fact that i'm only 15 :). My dad was 6' 5" and half sweed too. :viking:

BTW: mabey the horns made them look taller, just a thought.

Maybe if I had Sweedish in me that would have helped me get taller too. Too bad English and Cherokee make up most of the rest of me. Oh well. I don't mind being short. It makes me a good boxer. I might be short, but 210lbs is a lot of weight for a guy my size. And yes it's all muscle.:groucho:

I see it's time for me to release the lemmings again. As I've said before, the first one who make a viking with horns, I'll rip off their head and pour lemmings down the throat.

This is completely ahistorical, on par with "Africa is full of dog-headed quasi-humans."

There's no reason to put horns on your helmet if you can have mead in it instead. ;) The horn, that is.

Why are there so many paintings with horns on their helmets if it is so ahistorical?
Because silly 19th century Nationalists/Romantics thought that horns are just the thing to wear on that fancy costume party next week.
It's the same with the longboats, they didn't have striped sails (a la Explorer Vodka), but rather "diamond checkered" sails.

"Dog-Headed Quasi-Humans?" It's really that fake? Wow, thanks for clearing that up. My greatgrandmother was full Cherokee, that makes me like, uh... 1/8 Cherokee. There are a lot of Irish people where I live though, like almost everyone is at least 1/8 Irish.

Actually, some Danish ‘Vikings’ had horned helmets. But they were seemingly very rare.

Interestingly enough, some tribes of the ancient Sea Peoples are often depicted with horned helmets.

Odd coincidence, since the Vikings attacked by sea a lot. The Danish Vikings came later then the Vikings that mrtn was talking about, right?

There were only one period of vikings, about 700-1000. So Cimbri and I talk about the same vikings.

Quite right what Mrtn said, all three Scandinavian countries conducted Viking raids within the same time period.

As ancestry goes, I'm purely Swedish for several generations back - there's a suspected Scot back in the 19th C. I'm 1.88cm, that's about 6'2". Tallest in my immediate family. I may always mention I weigh in at ~66kg - hopefully it annoys the fatter among you!

I am not annoyed. At 350 lbs of BOLD beer-gut, I scoff at your 66 kg's. :D

Since this thread is already revived from a month's sleep already, it gives me the opportunity to answer this one (at last! hehe).

I think this unit is more ment to be for the Med. Infantry, I suppose. The original swordsman (or the Germanic spearman a few pages back) can be good for a warrior/swordsman/spearman.
