I can understand that some people might not like it if a thread is bumped after a couple years, especially just to say nice unit or something similar. But, in this case, I think that Blaatand brought up a legitimate issue: he would like to see this unit altered a bit. It is commonplace in a unit thread for people to request or ask how to make alterations or variations of the posted unit.
I was under the impression it was only legit to bump a long dead thread to announce some form of error with it (i.e. can't download, some bug, etc).
Why is this thread not an appropriate location to bring up this issue?
I merely think it would be better to take it up with the creator (though I don't know if Kinboat is active anymore) or post it in the main C&C forum rather than resurrect a dead thread.
Second, I think Wyrmshadow's comments are out of line. I find his comments here rude and insulting. Members here do not have to act or post according to Wyrmshadow's desires, and posts are not dumb because Wyrmshadow does not approve of them.
A. A bit extreme perhaps, but a poster does quickly learn that resurrecting dead threads is not looked upon very highly at all.
B. I'm not posting according to his desires. I was merely agreeing with the overall premise of his post: thread-necroing = bad.
Blaatand made an entirely legitimate post, asking a question about how the unit might be modified. He was even apologetic for bumping an old thread. It's legitimate to be disgruntled at a bump, but there is no call for vituperation.
An appropriate request and legitimate post yes, but there is a time and place for everything and I don't believe that this thread was right for it (due to the length of time it has been dead). It would have been better to either PM Kinboat or perhaps another unit maker to ask how to remake the unit to his liking or, as I have already stated, post the question in the main C&C forum for others to weigh in on.
Yes, a bit harsh, but given the length of time he has been a member, he must have at least stumbled across a similar incident and saw the fallout that ensued.
I'll leave this topic be now, as it is beginning to become a threadjack.
