In my last 2 games (8-18) I set Mercia and The Ayyubids civs with the two additional VP compatibity patches made by Enginseer.

Both act weel and seem balanced (tell me if I'm wrong)

Can we expect a next release with some new civs like those? Should be a big breakthrough

Have to break it to you, but it's usually the community that has to release these compatibility patches. It's usually me however, since most of the faulty coding is in Lua... something that people don't know how to read nor edit. Nevertheless, if I'm in a good mood I might release more compatibility patches for custom civilizations, but me in a good mood is rare. :crazyeye:

Is there other custom civs besides these that work with VP and better yet are somewhat balanced?

JFD and Janboruta's are compatible and strive to make it balance with VP. Other modders such as Sukritakt, ViceVurtuoso and Tomatekh also references CBO.

Leugi recently released Olmec, hokath made a balanced modmod here.

Just make sure you download are those that are recently updated :p

I think a lot of the custom made civs that have a lot of LUA calls will be limited on how much the AI can use them (if at all, usually have to implement workarounds). They are usually best used in the hands of a human player.

I wonder if Japanese units gifted to city states will still give Japan culture when / if they level up.

Oh mah gosh America and Germany got buffed! :thanx: In fact a lot of the lower tier civs got the work this time around! Truly we are reaching the point where the game will be totally ready.

Japan: Dojo loses Culture/Production from Iron/Horses. Instead, gains following ability: when a unit created in this City levels up, gain Culture based on its current level. (Current scaler: 15 Culture x unit level) Design: Japan has the potential to be a real cultural powerhouse via the creation and maintenance of high-experience units.

Dough Joe will be great now, especially with some Orders. I doubt it will be broken though, both Alexandeer, Harald and have something much better, especially if they encounter one of THOSE AI.

By "those AI", I mean Montezuma likes who are in Classical when everyone is in Renaissance because their 50 billion Jaguars/Warriors/Spears made them go -70 gazillion GPT.

Orders after the buffs from previous patches are awesome by the way. They're basically Walls + Barracks + Heroic Epic with yields removed and +2 Faith placed instead. If I wasn't such a warmongering menace to the world I wouldn't be taking them myself, but since I am - they're great. They aren't overpowered because their yields are pretty bad and, well, their effect is strong, if you took it you are obviously considering some conquest and as such you don't want +10 City Defense to spread to your neighbours.

Defender of Faith seems overtuned though.

Is this retroactive or do we only get culture from units created after the dojo is built? Does the warrior we get at the start of the game count as being born in the capital?

Seems like a nerf overall, before we would get culture every turn from every city that had iron and/or horses (which are very common resources), now japan has to be either at war or chasing barbarians if they want to get their bonus culture. Gameplay wise this a much more interesting bonus though. Warmongers might be able to really use it to it's full extent.

Retroactive for units built in city that level up after dojo is built. You don't get a huge bump of culture for levels earned before, of course.

The reason I removed the Horse/Iron buff is that Japan's bonuses were too heavily tied to map RNG. You needed a strong coastal start, with strong coastal expansion positions, AND iron/horses near most cities to really take advantage of UA/UB bonuses. The UB is now free from that, is more unique, and ties more clearly into Japan's 'elite, always fully powerful units' theme. Synergizes with bonuses to XP from barracks etc., as those initial levels give you culture as well.

I know AI units get a bunch of promotions for free on higher difficulties, is that from leveling or are they just spawned that way? If it's not from experience they get when they're created I'm worried that Japan's UB will be mostly useless for the AI who have a hard time keeping units around for very long. I've never seen a unit with march, logistics, etc (not counting UU that come with those).

All promotions like that are earned through leveling.

Yes you should be able to.

Polynesia on Archipelago will now be absurd in it's power.

I played Polynesia on Emperor a few versions ago, and won Culture victory in 1796.

I'm guessing they'll be pretty beefy on Communitas too, though not to the same degree of ridiculousness.

When were Samurai promotions buffed? Last time I looked at them they were like 5% CS and something small, now they're all way stronger. 10 heal on kill +15% attack is one of them - neat. That's good, because before they were pretty useless to be honest.

Also why is Samurai and Dojo unlocked on different techs? On all the other civs they're on the same techs. It does make sense to have Dojo on Chivalry though, and it's the same tech with the ultimate cultural warmonger wonder - Alhambra.

New Dojo isn't broken, in fact it's just okay as far as Medieval UBs go - unless you spam Scouts, delay the tech that gets rid off them and remove them afterwards. That accelerates it a lot, but the same can be said of the Ottoman foundry, which in fact comes even earlier and can make you into a super-sejong.

Liking the new Japan, much more interesting, except for the Fish+ Atoll part of UA.

Didnt understand why puppets not only get a lot of disadvantes, but also a crippled AI.
Thanks Gazebo for your fast responding to our all benefits.

They won't, as the unit is killed and recreated for the CS. I added a tracer element so that units know what city they are born in now.

G
Would this mean it's possible to add a promotion to all units born out of a city, before and after, after completing a building that adds something (Heroic Epic, Alhambra, etc...)? One thing that's always bugged me about the game is building the HE, but watching as my veterans can never have Morale. Just an idea...
