New video's from E3

Here it's clearly shown that units don't necessarily die after an attack.

Some cool stuff here.

From gamespot vid:
Even riflemen have the *100 modifier to the reported strengths in melee combat. Reported strengths are 2875 vs 3125.
Injured swordsman vs near-dead pikeman is 3040 vs 670
[Supports my theory that these are just to avoid decimalization]

Combat outcomes are not rigorously reported (at least in the simplest UI mode; might be changeable through options); instead "stalemate" or "major victory" or "total victory" or similar are reported before combat starts.

3 destroyer bombardments (with promotions!) kill a battleship.

Accuracy vs barrage promotions, one (accuracxy) gives +25% bonus ranged attack against units in open terrain (NOT hills, jungle or forest), the other (barrage) against units in rough terrain (forest, jungle, hills.

If I had to guess, I think so many of the complete kills might be coming from the fact that units seem to be heavily promoted. It might well be the case that promotions boost strength/damage, but not health.

Don't know whether this has been seen before but in the GameSpot video at 2:13 a Longswordsmen has the following modifiers:

+25% Great General Near
+30% Flanking Bonus
+15% Adjacent Friendly Unit
+20% Open Terrain Attack Bonus

The opposing Pikeman has the following:
-33% Terrain Modifier

Could this mean that Great Generals are used differently in Civ5?

After looking at the new videos I'm afraid of a single thing... all maps shown are really small (judging by the minimaps). They better include big maps or, now that units can move 2-4 tiles a turn, the game will feel more like a tactical wargame than the engrossing strategy game that Civ has always been.

Yes, it looks pretty clear that a great general is a military unit that has a kindof "command aura", that gives a strength bonus in a radius.

I'm hoping that this is how medics will be implemented too.

Yeah that would be pretty cool. I like the new concept for the generals as well - much better than Civ 4, felt a bit of a waste. That is unless you managed to find a production powerhouse with 5 generals joined to it.

It seems to me like the civs with the really transparent borders are city-states.

Lord, this game looks so damn good and polished right now. :D

From the 2nd video:

Artillery Promotions:

Accuracy: +20% to Ranged Attack vs units in open terrain (hills, plains, grasslands). [there are 3 terrains listed, I think the third was grasslands);

Barrage: +25% to Ranged Attack vs units in rough terrain (forest...)

Jon is sooo cute. Its the only videogame programmer I've ever said this about. Wow. A keeper

They show the 'damage the combat will give' as well as the current status of the units in those colored bars.

The Question is whether the damage shown is the Average of a range or the limits of a range.

They may have removed the RNG altogether... the Predictions seemed to be 100% accurate (one can only hope)

Some things I am noticing about combat:

-Glowing bars during combat prep represent the life both units will lose. Does this mean that there is no more RNG for combat? Just set amount of damage dealt per combat by each unit?

-Health has no effect to unit strength for combat

-Units have 10 hp? Seems that way since there are little red negative numbers that float above units after combat. These are all small (3-8 in the video) with 8 being a large chunk of a unit's hp.

-Great generals now seem to be "Civilian" units at least for unit stacking purposes. Watch the combat from 2:10. The longswordsman attack and there is a horseman holding a banner that stays behind in the tile.

-The previously mentioned promos are actually: Barrage +25% vs. Rough terrain (hills/forest/jungle) and Accuracy +25% vs Open terrain (NO hills/forest/jungle)

The Generals seem to have the same symbol shape as workers, and was stacked in same hex as a Cavarly. They probalby count as "Civilian Units" for stacking.

From the second video:

Great general seem to operate on their own or with a unit - wherever this stacking or attachment is unclear - i would go with attachment since the GG seem to stick with the longswordmans

Combat seems to cause fear - following combat the damage you caused is displayed at the top, it says: Blah blah(3 damage, 0 fear) saw that twice.

When a unit moves the limit you can move to is outlined in pale blue.

Finally the game looks preety good so far.

Thoughts on this people? Very interesting observation. Was it with the same unit as the GG was joined with?

Yeah I have to admit he's a good looking fella. Looks a bit like that guy from Donnie Darko and Prince of Persia.

The blue text that is coming up after battle is XP. I have watch the video a bunch of times and never saw any fear thing. What time do these supposed fear damage take place?

Yet still nothing about Social Policies :(. Makes me convinced that they're still a "Work in Progress"!
