Can u have pbem games w/ a scenario like the test of time mod?
Yes you can.

When in the MP loading screen, instead of selecting 'Standard' for 'Game Mode', select 'Scenario'. You will then be prompted to select the scenario.

Does anyone ever update the Civ3 FAQ on the CFC site? It says it hasn't been updated since January 15, 2003. It would be great to get some of the info that's posted here, into the FAQ.

Sirp and Turner_727 are working on updating the FAQ... Give them some time, and we will have a fully functioning FAQ soon. :)

Sirp & Turner_727 :goodjob:

By the way, DaviddesJ, if you have any suggestions about what else will be good to have in the FAQ, let them know. :)

I was in a military alliance with Egypt against the Romans. Cleopatra sent some troops down, had a brief skirmish and then she signed a peace treaty with Rome. Is this normal AI behavior, or is she pissed off because I stole a Roman city that she was trying to take?

Thanks

@Vincenzo: That's pretty normal behavior, for a back-stabbing, deal-breaking Cleopatra. :)

@vincenzo: Also watch out for Isabella (Spain). She may be pretty :) but she is yet to keep a single alliance deal with me in all the games that I have played. She usually signs peace with the enemy after 10 turns or so.

If you attack a civ with a Privateer, does that affect your diplomatic relations?

I could swear that Japan was "polite" with me before I attacked and became "annoyed" with me afterwards, and all I did was sink one of his ships with a Privateer.

puskarm, the AI does know it's you attacking and attitude will drop but it's temporary and recovers quickly in my experience. Bamspeedy's AI Attitude post in the Strategy Articles forum may cover this in more detail.

OK. Both FAQs have some errors (e.g., it says that the center space of a town uses the terrain shield production, with a minimum of one, but in fact towns in forests only produce one shield) and omissions. I'll make a list of things I've noticed, and send them in.

It would be nice to keep both FAQs in sync, especially since the one linked from the CFC main page is more prominent.

David, AFAIK, a forest is cleared when you settle it and becomes the base terrain (grass, plain, or tundra). You can see this if you settle a city there and then abandon it.

The FAQ page on the main site should probably have a link to the thread since the thread will be more frequently updated.

Forests (and jungles) will always be chopped down when you settle on such tile. Furthermore, in general the base shield value of a town square is always the same, regarless of the terrain beneath. However, industrious civs get a bonus here when the town becomes city/metro and the shield output on the city square can be higher than one for any civ due to strategic resources.

Still two FAQs accessable?
Maybe Padma or Chieftess can edit the old one with a redirection to the new one.

One of my elite units won a battle and I got a popup message to rename the unit. I named him Leader 1, and hit enter. But it then created another unit called Pyrrhus on its own, he is wearing a cape and crown and has an ADM of 0.0.3 so I guess he is the real leader.

How do I use the Leader to rush a production? I tried putting him in a town and clicked Hurry but it still came up with a gold required number.

The other unit, the renamed one, shows as an elite* unit. What does that mean?

Thanks

Put him in a city there will be two button there. One will be build army and finish improvement. Hit finish improvement.

The * means that that unit cannot produce any other great leaders until it has been upgraded. So if it's a spearman with a * it won't produce another leader until it upgrades to a pikeman.

Your guessing about GL was right.
Rush prod w/ GL: move him into a town. Then a "hurry production" button appears (at the bottom of the screen, just where the other order buttons like "got to" and such are).
The star* is a reminder for you: A unit w/ a star can't produce another GL. The star will be removed (but not unit's name) when you upgrade it. Then you could try to get it to "elite" again and milk another GL.
edit: beaten.... :smoke: ... again :wallbash:

Thanks, Grille and hbdragon. I was looking in the city screen for the buttons.
Is it correct that I cannot get another Great Leader until I use this one?
Thanks

Right. You have to use up the Great Leader before you can get another one.

I remember reading that in this one game, the players were using Great Leaders to rush units because they already rushed every other improvement and built all the armies possible.

It just worked out that I will be going from Monarchy to Republic at about the same time I will build a Forbidden Palace. Is there any compelling reason why I would want to do either one of these before the other?
Would the Forbidden Palace possibly make for a shorter time in anarchy?
Thanks
