Welcome to CFC, eaze14! :D

While I applaud your use of the "Newbie Questions" thread, I will point out that this is the kind of question the "Technical Support" forum is for. ;) No matter. I moved the thread you had started to that forum. Maybe you'll get an answer at one of them. :)

I believe that at Chieftain level, you can have negative cashflow without any impacts. Once you move up, you start seeing troops disbanding and improvements being sold.
Correct, but negative cashflow isn't the term. You can have a negative cashflow or budget deficit on every level (as long as you have enough gold in your reserves).

You cannot have a negative treasury on any level, but on chieftain you're forgiven for this. On other levels it's just as Padma says.

Thanks guys for the responses above to my query about reputation.
Does anyone have a quick answer to whether the following bug is well known and corrected in one of the patches (otherwise I'll do some searching among the bug reports)?
Having advanced to Stealth and Smart Weapons I now have a precision bomb button. However when I activate it I can only get the bomb pop up over my own cities! Over enemy cities I just get the no go sign. If I try out the precision bombing of one of my cities there is a satisfying explosion and the Domestic Advisor pops up to say something like - You can no longer support the granary (or whatever) in city x. Look at your funding - . (I have thousands in the treasury). Ordinary bombing works OK.
My Civ 3 version is 1.07. Thanks.

peterval: Run, don't walk, to the Patches page, and upgrade to v1.29f! V1.07f had many major bugs, including, I believe, this one. Most posters here are using 1.29f, and it is considered the *standard* version for asking/answering questions here. We will help you no matter the version you have, but anything other than 1.29 makes us stop and think a little harder, trying to remember .... ;)

What is this "Vanilla Civ3" i keep reading about?!?

Depending on context, "Vanilla Civ3" can refer to an unmodified game, e.g., "the game was played as Vanilla Civ rather than DYP". Or it could refer to the base Civ3 game, as compared to PTW (and now C3:C).

I have seen it most often in the latter context: "Are you playing PTW or Vanilla Civ?"

Me goodness. I've had this game for months and yet... ;)

Is there any sort of way to save the map of a game that one is currently playing?

Actually there is a way to save the map, I believe (haven't exactly tried this). If you just played that map, then look for the PTW.ini file (I think for vanilla Civ3, it would be Civ3.ini) and in the bottom of that file there is a 'world seed' number. In the editor somewhere there is a place to put the world seed number, and I think it is when you generate a map. Then save it as a scenario.

I just tested it and it works (sort of). You can get the map identical if you know all the setting that was used on the first map (map size, water %, climate, etc.).

If you get the wrong map size, water %, or age, then you will get a totally different looking map. Having the wrong climate and temperate will still give you the exact same size/shape of continents/islands, but the terrain types will be different.

You could very easily change an earth map to be warm and wet, or arid and dry, and it would still look like earth (continents still shaped the same).
EDIT: Nevermind, earth maps don't work, because custom maps aren't given a world seed number.

I think there's another way...

Doesn't C3MT have the ability to export BICs? If so load up the savegame and then export the BIC. It might have the map on it and you can use it for another game...

Thanks for the quick replies to my question, guys. You people really know what you're talking about...

can anyone post a screenshot of a DyP mod????
and can anyone tell me in what consists that scenario???

Well, I think the most shocking screenshot of the DyP mod would be of the tech tree. This is just the ancient era!:

And here is a succession game where some people that were new to the DyP mod played the game and shared their experiences with it: (has some screenshots)

I captured a city with 7 pop. There were 6 resistors so I garrisoned 14 of my military there. But the next turn only 5 of the resistors were quelled. 2 per resistor was always enough in the past.
What happened here?

Also, the 5 that were quelled became unhappy and the city went into disorder.
What should I have done differently?
Thanks
