Newbie Succession Game

Ok, I know I just apperead out of nowhere, but I've decided to step in and continue this succesion. Here are the main events of the rule of Emperor Snefix:

2270BC- Razed Shangai
@2200BC- founded Sparta
2920BC- Razed Shangai(a new one appered)
1990BC- Razed Beijeng, Destroyed all of China
1990BC- expanded Palace
1790BC- founded Thermopylae
1790BC- discovered Iron Working

All the people that might have been wondering, yes we were all on a small island with the Chinese.

So to summarize my rule- I've destroyed an entire civilization, increased the treasury to ten times its' original size, expanded our borders, founded several new cities, and made the people so happy they wanted to build me a palace. A rather succesful reign as Emperor I'd say.

1750 - The science rate was increased to 90, we are currently operating at a loss but it allows us to get writing in 22 turns, so that we can get off of this island. There is another civilization, presumably the Egyptians, that are located south of Athens and the sooner we get to them, the better off we should be.
1725 to 1650 – Nothing of note occurs.
1625 – The road to Thermopylae is complete!
1600 to 1550 – Another period of silence.
1525 The temple in Sparta is finally completed and it is now building the Colossus. I am not sure if this will be to late, otherwise we are stockpiling shields for a future wonder. Sparta is more centrally located and it may be a better location for our capital but I doubt moving the capital would make a huge impact.
1500 – Our golden age comes to an end and our settler in Athens is complete. I decided to send him to the hill northeast of Athens. It isn’t a great location but it is an area that we needed to fill.
1475 to 1425 – Yet another uneventful period in the history of the Greeks.
1400 – Sparta’s cultural borders have expanded.
1375 – Corinth is founded four squares north of Athens.
1350 to 1300 – Another period of quiet.
1275 – The temple in Thermopylae is rushed at the cost of 1 citizen.

From now on I will try to be more creative with my reports but I had already written the above text and I really didn’t want to write it all over. My reign lasted 20 turns in a fairly quiet time. I managed to improve our empire’s culture and I even managed to found the city of Corinth. After we get writing (in 3 turns), we should reevaluate our research rates, which are currently at 90%, and do whatever we need to get mapmaking. We our stuck on a small island, with another civilization just south of us and we need land for our empire to grow.

Here is the save, I was going to attach it to my last post but for whatever reason I couldn't edit my post to attach a file. Good luck to the next leader of the Greeks.

So the order for now is :benjdm, Donsig, Emperor Snefix, and Thiazi until Sword of Leo solves his technical difficulties. To keep things moving I'll jump in and take a turn next.

1275 BC - benjdm is begins his second reign as emperor of a Greece that is master of its own island. He surveys the land, finding much military strength but little civilian population after the bitter war with the Chinese. A program of expansion and infrastructure is begun.
1250 Thermopylae completes their temple and starts building a hoplite in preparation for being the garrison for future cities.
1200 Greek thinkers discover writing ! They immediately begin researching pottery, hoping to discover a way to cross the waters to the south and west and visit distant lands.
1125 Corinth completes hoplite. Begins construction of a temple.
1050 Pottery is discovered by Greek thinkers ! The all-important technology of mapmaking is estimated to be 29 turns away.
1025 Athens completes its temple and begins building a settler unit.
950 Thermopylae builds hoplite. Commences producing wealth because the population will not support a worker yet.
850 Athens builds a settler and commences production of a granary. The settler is sent to the northeast corner of the island.
800 Temple rushed in Corinth, Thermopylae starts building a worker.
775 Corinth completes its temple. A fierce debate over future production is settled by flipping a coin and a granary is started.
750 BC benjdm disappears. A new leader emerges...

We still have a bunch of low population cities. I placed military units where I think we should found cities and a settler just reached one of those places. Economy is running at -4 per turn. I started irrigating in the middle so we could branch out from there especially toward the plains on the West side of our island. Good luck to Donsig or Sword of Leo, whoever gets here first !

730 BC: Delphi founded in the eastern jungles.

710 - 470 BC: Jungle clearing, road building, irrigation projects, work on wonders, research on how to get off this island...

450 BC: The Greeks figure out how to make maps. The granary in Corinth abandoned in favor of a galley to explore.

430 - 390 BC: See 710 - 470 BC but add exploration of the sea...

370 BC: Colussus built in Sparta! An island to our north has iron.

A new world! An arctic island to the northwest and a hill island to the north east. Another civ lies to the south...

Our tax rate still needs more tinkering - or else we must raise our income level (more roads and cities?)

We do need more cities. I've got one settler started. Working on a couple wonders - the lighthouse seems very important to us! Researching mystiscm for yet another wonder.

Good luck to the next player and thank you to the previous ones for getting rid of China.:goodjob:

This is a synopsis of the reign of Emperor Snefix II:

350BC- Relocated construction of Great Lighthouse to Sparta
330BC- Contacted our western neighbors, The Zulu, in Bapedi
190BC- Finally balanced the budget so we are breaking even
190BC- Contacted Babylonians in Lagash/ traded Contact with the Zulu for the Babylonian World Map and 8 Gold
170BC- Completed the road to Corinth connecting them to our trade route
70BC- Founded Pharsalos on the northern island with the Iron Deposit, discovered it to be a small island that is ours to own
10BC- Contacted the Russians in Minsk
10AD- Stabbed in the back while delivering a speech to the people of Athens on how we need as many colonial cities on as many islands as possible.

So Snefix II, while not having as an impressive rule as his great-grandfather did manage to double his initial treasury, found a city, expand a little on fledging traveling system, and contact 3 other civilizations.

10 AD: In a coup the emperor Thiazi II gains power over the Greek government. His first acts are to send the ship near Iron Island to Corinth and the ship near the Zulu Nation to Athens. He decides to let the ship near the Ruß to continue scouting.

30 AD: The dastardly Iroquois have completed in the Pyramids in Salamanca.

50 AD: A second Iron Island is spotted north of Moscow and a ship is sent to scout it out. Our workers have completed the road to the iron mine at Pharsalos (sp?). Thermopylae switches from Pyramids to Oracle.

70 AD: Curses! The second Iron Island is uninhabitable. A group of settlers is completed in Athens and they will be sent to the vineyards on the Zulu’s island.

90 AD: Another ship is sent to Athens. Our scholars have mastered the secrets of literature! They will now focus their attention on the study of many Gods.

110 AD: In an effort to boast our slowing understanding of the world around us we trade our knowledge of literature and 10 gold to the Zulus for their knowledge of philosophy and the wheel. We then offer the Zulu our territory map and they are willing to give us their knowledge of horseback riding, their world map and 5 gold.

130 AD: The dastardly Babylonians have completed the Great Library!

150 AD: We have sent a convoy of slaves to help develop our future holdings on the Zulu’s island and we have decided to put more of our efforts towards scientific research (science is now at 70).

170 AD: Another group of settlers is complete in Athens and they will also be sent to the Zulu’s island. Athens now focuses its attention to the great task of building a library.

190 AD: In a relatively calm time our workers continue improving the infrastructure on our main island and two of our ships reach Athens.

210 AD: The harbor in Corinth is rushed to completion but at the cost of half of its populace (1 citizen). After meetings with the Babylonians and Zulu’s we find that they have already mastered a code of laws and we decide that it would be more prudent to purchase it from them, instead of researching it ourselves (science is lowered to 10). Our second settler is sent of to the northern part of the Zulu island.

230 AD: Corinth has completed its harbor and now focuses its attention on the construction of a library. The coastal city of Knossos is founded on the northernmost point of the Zulu island and it begins to establish its first band of warriors. Disease has ravaged the jungle city of Delphi (1 population point lost).

250 AD: Another period of relative peace and infrastructure development.

260 AD: Our workers have established an iron colony on the Zulu island.

270 AD: In the middle of the night, the emperor Thiazi transforms into a falcon and it is thought that he may be headed towards Valhalla. /** Yeah, that was a lame reference to my name but I’ll get better at these updates. **/

Our treasury should be in a little bit better state than it had been. We should try to trade for the code of laws and any other technologies that we are missing. I would hesitate to give up our world map but I guess it is the next rulers call. On my final turn a settler landed at Knossos, we should use him to grab the open supply of wines but it may not be a bad idea to use him to secure our source of iron. We gained four new technologies during my reign but I still feel that we are advancing slower than we should. After we buy code of laws and whatever other techs we need, we should readjust our science rate but again this will be the next rulers decision.

280ad - benjdm III rises from among the people and claims the throne. Athens completes its library and begins immediate work on a settler. Temple is rushed in Delphi at the cost of one citizen. A warrior is dispatched from Athens to Zulu Island to be a garrison in the new city planned there. We buy code of laws from Babylon for 53 gold.
290ad - Delphi completes its temple, starts on a granary. Galley west of Knossos continues exploration. Zulus settle Tugela along coast well SW of Greek Iron colony. Polytheism research started.
300ad - Settler reaches hills of Zulu Island.
310ad - Argos built on Zulu Island ! Production started on worker.
320ad - Greek warrior moved toward Argos for garrison duty.
330ad - Athens completes its settler and sends him east. Delphi's borders expand ! We sell Philosophy to Russians for WM, TM, and 29 gold.
340ad - Knossos completes its warrior, begins work on a temple.
350ad - Settler reaches planned city location.
360ad - Babylonian warrior and settler land South of Sparta ! Mycenae founded south of Sparta, worker production begun.
370ad - Russians are building Oracle. Babylonians invade our territory ! benjdm III considers warning them off but decides to wait.
380ad - Athens completes another settler, sends settler toward last surveyed city location on Greek island. Looks like we're racing the Babylonians for it and we should get there first. Athens begins production of hoplite. benjdm III retires.

Our economy is still set at 90 % taxes. I experimented with lowering it but it wasn't helping our research very much so I left it as is. I don't think we're going to get Oracle and very iffy on Lighthouse but I leave that up to my successor. The settler has orders already to move up to the NE part of the island where the archer is for the last city on Greek island. I wanted to settle the island before someone else landed on it and it looks like we were not a moment too soon. If we ask the Babylonians to leave right now they'll either declare war on us or move to just outside Mycenae where they might found a city anyway. Good luck !

420 AD: Russians land on our island!

430: Herakleia founded just in time to prevent a Russian city on our land!

440: Zulus build Oracle - we get an expensive courthouse in Thermopylae.:(

460: Shaka extorts our map from us.

490: Hammurabi establishes an embassy in Athens.

510: Babylonian ship near unsettled NW island!

540: Traded maps with Catherine.

550: Zulus land on unihabited NW island!

560: Babylonians are fisrt to colonize NW island! Ephesos founded near Zululand.

590: Thessalonica founded on NW island.

We need a new government but we are taking forever to research anything! I tried upping the science rate to no avail.

The NW island is crowded. I think this is where the wars will start.

Snefix or Thiazi, whoever gets here first, grab a turn. Or Sword of Leo if you have figured out where your civ3 game locates its save files.
