BOTM 01: Zara Yaqob

This game MUST be played in Beyond The Sword patch version 3.13. It will not able to be played in any other Civ version, or patch version

Further, it MUST be played using the latest version of HOF mod for Beyond The Sword. This is currently Version 3.13.001.

Game settings:
Civilization: Ethiopia (Leader: Zara Yaqob. Traits: Creative & Organised)
Rivals: 6
Difficulty: Prince
Map: Big & Small (normal continents, normal islands mixed in)
Mapsize: Standard
Climate: Temperate
Water level: Low
Starting Era: Ancient
Speed: Epic
Victory Conditions: All enabled
Other settings: No Technology Trading.

The starting screenshot is here (Click for larger version)

Zara Yaqob:
Zara Yaqob is organised and creative; starting with Hunting and Mining. With the organised trait, the civilization has -50% civic upkeep, as well as double production speed for lighthouses, courthouses and factories. Creative gains +2 culture per city, and allows double production speed of libraries, theatres and colosseums.

Unique unit:
The ethiopian unique unit is the Oromo Warrior. This is a gunpowder unit, that replaces the standard musketman, and has identical stats (cost 120 hammers, strength of 9 and movement of 1). Unlike the musketman, it is immune to first strikes, gets one free first strike of its own, and starts with Drill I and Drill II.

Unique building:
The unique building is the Stele. Available with mysticism, it replaces the monument. It allows +25% culture.

Adventurer Class bonuses:
 1. Start with a free Worker (on the same tile as the settler)

Challenger Class Equalizers:
 1. Start without any techs.
 2. Clams in starting screenshot are removed.

>>Go grab the starting saves!

There seems to be a bug in the Contender save where the tile 2SE of the settler, and the tile 2E 1N of the settler are blacked out when they shouldn't be.

OK, so I'm getting a "Load Failed" message. Could this be due to the fact that I have the BUG mod installed? I tried to make an empty copy of CustomAssets folder to make it work, but still no luck. Can anybody give any advice, please?

Not sure. Does that mod change any of the base assets files?

Have you patched to v3.13?

At worst, uninstall, delete any remaining files, reinstall BTS, reinstall patch 3.13, reinstall HOF mod should work....

Unless you've modded the base Civ4 or warlords as well.

I've got it sorted. I had Bhruic's patch installed, and I just had to switch back to the old GameCore.DLL file. Thanks.

First off im really exited that there's a BTS GOTM. I have a bug though, I don't know if it's related to this BSGOTM or BTS/HOF in general:

There's one square in my city raduis which stays shadowed, even if i move units on it. I can use it for city production though, and judging by the amount of hammers/food I can guess what kind of square it is and if it has a special resource or not. It's just very annoying. Anyone else had this bug?

Sorry .. noticed ainwood already replied to this bug. You can delete this post if you want.

OK - I've done some testing on this....

In making this map, I applied some FOW via worldbuilder - nothing sinister, I just moved units around, and had to guess where the FOW should be.

It appears that there is some sort of bug - if these squares are initially made visible by a unit, then they are 'revealed" (which is why I didn't pick them up in testing).

However, if you settle in-place, and let the culture expansion cover them, they aren't revealed, even when a unit later moves over them.

Sorry for the inconvenience. FWIW, if there are any resources there (I won't confirm nor deny) then I'd expect that the resources flag should still be visible (I guess....)

I found after palaying for a while the tiles became revealed and workable. I'm afraid I didn't notice if anything in particular caused it.

I have the same problem with loading the savegame as merum. I also had one of Bhruics dll and returned the original dll, but the problem still remains. The only change I made I can remember, is changing one file to regain access to the diplomatic glance tab. Could this be the reason for my problem?

Yes. Any file change within the Assets or Hof Mod assets will cause the problem.

There is an Assets Checker provided by the HoF team. That will tell you whether your files match the required assets, and highlight any that don't. Find the link in this post

Start BtS...
Load proper HOF Mod...
Open start file within the game...
Move scout 1SE to plains hill (for a look around)...
Settler founds city in place...(actually I just click to have Settler found the city, but)...
Game LOCKS UP?

Can someone please try to duplicate?
It's happened twice now and I would like to know if it's just me?
Haven't had an issue with BtS otherwise?

Please let me know? I'm excited about BOTM1.

Is this just a 'guess' or does the resource flag still reveal a resource (if it exists). I don't want anyone to confirm the resource, just the method of revealing it in this circumstance. I settled in place and need to know if I have something to work over there. My culture has expanded and the fog is still there.

thanks

I tried the Contender save with all HoF Mod options switched off, then I switched all options on, loaded the save again and re-tried. Both tests were OK.

Hmmm...
Thanks for trying. I'll turn a few things off and on in my HOF settings too, to see if I can get it to plant the city and move forward.

I guess I could send you a save with that turn completed to your specifications, but I suspect you would then fail at the next city founding.

BTW. Do you have Wait at end of turn set, or whatever it's called? I haven't tried it without that, but the mod *might* do strange things if the game attempts to rush headlong into the inter-turn.

Tried "restore defaults" in the HOF mod, then tried the game again. Same issue?

So, downloaded and reinstalled HOF mod and, naturally, things now work perfectly. Sorry for the trouble. Thanks for the help!
Off to BOTM1...

Just got BTS and first attempt was with GOTM save. Downloaded HOF mod from above, but, when tried to load game, it would not load.

Got

LOAD ERROR

Cannot load version 301, was expecting version 300 or lower

Someone please tell me what everyone else knows but that I'm missing.
