News: BOTM 02 Results & Congratulations

I suspect the number of cultural losses was partly because people aren't yet used to the AI going for cultural and so didn't allow for the possibility in their playing. I bet in future BOTMs people will be looking out for those more and so less likely to get taken by surprise.

Not sure what I could have done to stop it though. The only surprise was the the Culture loss came earlier than the Spaceship loss really........

In my game, after Mansa and I sued for peace, I noticed that he stopped researching. So I checked the "fist" to find out he had 3 cities around 20k culture. So I was forced to go annex my best trading partner; before and after two wars. That is all you can do unless build a whole lot of spies and points to wreck all the tiles within each of the cities fat cross. Even that might not be enough.

Offff i'm second for the cow and it's only because my life i couldn't play few more hours to 2050 and had to lunch just to be able to report the game.
200pts = 3 future tech more = 9 turns more. :/

Why is the religious shield the same purple as the diplo shield? Since religion is about fiery passion, and candles or fire are often a symbol, why not orange, the color of fire?

dV

Why do you assume religion is about fiery passion? :p I'm 'religious', but I'm not sure how many people would consider me 'passionate' ;)

I've learnt something from this game. I need to turn off the PC more often between civ sessions. IIRC I played it through in one sitting. There was some AFK in those 150 hours

Congrats to the winners.

Congrats to all the winners, and many thanks to the admins! I look forward to Balbes's spoiler.

I was looking forward to Adonias' account -- he'd posted in first spoiler that he'd wiped out both Darius & Hatty by 500 BC (only one to do that), also got pyramids & was just about to wipe out Mansa too at 500AD. I thought he had fastest domination in the bag, given that with Mansa gone he'd be so close, and that winner was Jeffa at 1510ad. Wonder what went wrong; don't see he posted to final spoiler ...

I noticed that as well. Mansa ran no research but his culture was sky rocketing. Then he back stabbed me. He's easy to bribe, and I like it when the other AI utilize that as well

A nice close fight between yourself, ShannonCT and me. Strange that ShannonCT had the same finish date and a higher base score but you had a better final score (just) to win the award.

I am puzzled by this as well. What is in the formula for scaling the base score that would not necessarily make the person with the higher base score the same as the person with the higher scaled score?

Thanks to the staff for another great game! Apparently I still have much to learn about streamlining the the tech tree. I too can hardly wait to read the "Balbes" report for some great insights. The one thing I know slowed me down was too many wars in the middle ages. I did not do a very good job of managing relations, and I was attacked too many times because I was far down on the power graph.

I can sympathize on the attacked too many times, as that fate befalls me often as well. How did you manage to survive it?

Outside the context of Civ, I would agree with your point on personal approach to religion. But when religion becomes a geoplolitical force that dominates the world, fiery passion is usually involved, I think.

But even if we remove the fiery passion issue ... candles, fire, the sun ... all have played important roles in many if not most religions. So orange for the religious shield still makes senes, I think ...

I'm not really sure, in Warlords and Vanilla, higher base score always meant higher final score if two games ended on the same turn...I wonder if BtS changed it somewhat. Apparently the way final score is calculated is visible in one of the python files in BtS, so if anyone has the time to check for it, you can find out what else is included in the final score that would make that change.

Howevr, purple is a religious color, especialy in christianity. Only priests and up were allowed to carry it. purple makes sence for me.

Aniway, I'm new tot the forum but I'm gonna jopin u in march. Although imortal will be hard :( . I even have difficulty with prince. It will be a nice start.

Both Apostolic Palace and UN victories are announced as "Diplomatic" victories by the game. I followed the precedent that was set in the Civ3 award scheme for low scoring Cultural victories, where, again, the game does not distinguish between the civ-wide 100K victory and the single-city 20K victory, and where both low scoring cultural shields are the same colour.

If you really want me to create a different coloured shield for the religious low-score, I can do so. However, since my attempts at the fastest religious award icon met with some criticism, I'm not enthusiastic about sticking my head in the noose again. Does anyone *really* care, or was it just time for another wind-up from DV? :hmm:

Incidentally, we had to do some serious digging to work out how to tell the difference between the two diplo victories in the submitted saves, and we declared no religious losses in the first game until I fixed a bug. Firaxis don't seem to have given due care and attention to the new VC.

Wouldn't you like to have the cash that my personal windmill makes for me ... :deal::gold:

Seems to me that if the religious fastest victory award deserves its own icon, then the religious fastest (oops!) lowest scoring victory shield deserves its own color ... Would you feel better if we polled on it? :mischief:

BTW, the global rankings are showing that distorted column layout again (at least for me) ...

dV

Umm. The shields are all lowest score awards, not fastest victory.

(at least for me)
Mission accomplished :)
OK. What browser do you use, in what screen resolution, with what text size preference?

[EDIT] Prolly IE - if it doesn't look right, it's always IE! How's that now?

True (oops!) ... it was a senior moment :sad::lol::

But to be really precise, its lowest scoring victory, isn't it? ;)

So, is it going to be orange any time soon? :mischief:

Same browser, resolution, text size that I used when it used to look right?:crazyeye:

But whatever you did, it is fine now ... you still need the answers to those three questions? :mischief:

Not unless you can demonstrate that anyone else cares.

Nah! I have a new secret weapon in my fight to get you guys onto a decent browser. Watch this space ... :mischief:

Alright, I second dV's idea that the religious shield should have a different color. I don't care which color though, but orange seems a decent choice. :)
