[news] BOTM 19 - Pre-Game Discussion

Hmmm, I don't like the starting area, I think I'll move the settler for 3 or 4 turns to find something better :p

Options:

- Cultural game, beat the record, win before 1000AD. Maybe trying to have 3 commerce cities as Legendary, since we are Financial and not Philosophical.

- Conquest game, send early exploration units everywhere, determine the kind of game this is, beeline Astro if needed, conquest them all with my superior technology, win the Gold medal in style (without milking the game).

Looks like a map for Gosha :)

The mint is identical to the forge (costs 125 hammers, causes 1 "unhealth", adds +25% hammer production), but it also adds 10% to commerce.
To gold, that's quite weaker.

Hi Jesusin!

I agree. How about moving about, oh say, 52N? Oh wait, this map is Cinderellical, not Toiletrollerial, so how about roughly 84W? About 84E might be good too?

Check it out... :mischief:

Good hunting one and all...
Adama

Might sound dumb but i didn't know you could win this way. what are the requirements???
Having three cities that have 50,000+ culture. Here is a guide to cultural victories.

Edit:
BTW: 50,000 culture is thre threshold for normal speed.

From CIV4CultureLevelInfo.xml
Code:
<Type>CULTURELEVEL_LEGENDARY</Type>
  <GameSpeedType>GAMESPEED_MARATHON</GameSpeedType>
  <iThreshold>150000</iThreshold>

  <GameSpeedType>GAMESPEED_EPIC</GameSpeedType>
  <iThreshold>75000</iThreshold>

  <GameSpeedType>GAMESPEED_NORMAL</GameSpeedType>
  <iThreshold>50000</iThreshold>

  <GameSpeedType>GAMESPEED_QUICK</GameSpeedType>
  <iThreshold>25000</iThreshold>
  </CultureLevelInfo>

Hmmm...maybe the catch is the rest of the land completely sucks o_o

Yep, thanks, i am not that much a beginer, i knew the conditions for a cultural victory, i was actually wondering if "legendary commerce city" means something else beyond the cultural aspect, i.e. is there a way to win commercially?
not sure i am clear here... whatever, i stop spreading rubbish here...

Sorry to have confused you. I'll try to be more clear:

When you are Philo, it makes sense to get your GPFarm to Legendary and then use 2 cities with high commerce output and get them to Legendary through the use of the culture slider. The GArtists the GPFarm provides are used there as Great Works.

In the present case it may be wiser not to do your GFarm one of the 3 Legendaries.

Well, the last BOTM was a hidden Emperor or Immortal game.
At least for us common players.
So its fair enough to get a chance for a more successfull try.

Damn me!! i get it!!! Being financial and making money allows you to boost your percentage of culture points collected as you don't need that much money.... This strategy would have been very usefull more than once if only i had thought about it...
Thanks anyway, and back to the main topic. Definitely this time.

Settling 1 south will make all 5 of your water tiles coastal. This will maximise the Colossus if you build it. You could really go nuts with shrines and Wall St here.

I tested the game made by JungleIII and noticed that Hatshepsut had archery to trade before she had developed hunting!

How'd she do that?

With this start you will be way ahead in tech. Get the scouts out to figure out what makes the map so "interesting" and head for bureaucracy? Chop out the oracle? Do we even need settlers - heck the library would be worth an early city or two. A huge tech lead with no iron, copper or elephants may make for an interesting map..
