The settings were a little unusual and I expected they would delay Domination and make Conquest much harder. Still, zamint3 got the bronze with a 560AD win, Jovan_Kukic took the gold in 760 AD and evil_spock the silver in 920 AD with Domination getting all three medals.
No one achieved a Conquest victory although Shulec gets the "I missed it by this much" award for his 51.42% Domination victory with 51% required on the turn of his Conquest - he was robbed.
This was the first BOTM since the Culture thru Espionage technique was publicized. Jesusin (1545) and neilmeister (1585) had impressive traditional culture victory dates. Kaitzilla demonstrated the date advantage of the Espionage approach with an 1130 AD culture victory (and WastinTime didn't finish a game which he thinks would have beaten 1100 AD). At some point in the future (I expect) we will have a separate award for the espionage victory, :espionage: but for now it counts as Cultural. :culture:
Mitchum had a fourth place score with his fastest Spaceship win (1675).
Only a few submissions achieved a Diplomatic victory (too many AIs?). We appreciate nocho disqualifying himself.
Only 1 Religious Victory (all those AIs made it less appealing?), congratulations to IvanTheFearsome. :hatsoff: My first map had Gilgamesh on a peninsula at the end and most of the AIs ended up in one religion. I moved him to the middle to give the players more choices and to split the religions.
Condolences to jnozzi and donsig who lost to AI culture. My next game will be easier (Noble). We really appreciate you submitting and encourage others who didn't have time to finish to submit their incomplete games in the future.

Here's where everyone settled.

The Small Print:
The numbers by each player's name indicate the turn settled on (starting turn is 0). Players are colour coded by game class (challenger=red, adventurer=blue). Symbols indicate victory condition, if there's no symbol then the player either retired or was defeated. The yellow border indicates the land that was visible at the start of the game.

I'm pleased that many remarked they enjoyed this game (including some that didn't submit). Here are the results:

Congratulations to all, but mainly to Mitchum!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :)

Those of you wishing to be singled out simply have to play SGs on the Shawshank Redemption team... :D

I started this scenario but got frustrated by all those mountains and the deviously placed resource tiles forcing me to not settle coastal. Well made scenario. ;)

I added the mountains but left the resources alone. Did add the gems IIRC, but what y'all needed was more food. Sorry about that. :mischief:

I think congratulations should go not only to all the players, but also to Deckhand who not only came up with a very original scenario for his first ever map (I enjoyed playing it!) but also managed to quickly master the - umm - rather complex bureaucratic processes involved in setting up a game and analysing the results. Thanks Deckhand :goodjob:

Nothing to be sorry about at all. As you just said, "I added the mountains but left the resources alone." Food was a very precious commodity this game, nothing wrong with that. The large number of AI is what made it interesting imo. :goodjob:

Thought you'd forgot the most important part of the game for a moment ;). Thanks for a fun game and congrats to all the winners..

I did sink the Utnaphistan. Took me another assault sub since I believe it sunk my first one. Also it's High King J.J. not Hi_King, I'm not that into hiking...
BTW, thanks for the hut next to Humbaba, I got Astronomy (at least I think I did, who remembers things that :old: anyway?)

Yes, you did - my post has been corrected.
Thanks for pointing it out.
I meant to ask for corrections, never sure if I should add those pleas or just expect people to supply corrections when they spot them.

Wow, I'm quite surprised that so few people attempted this additional challenge.

Though I guess, to be fair, it was easy for people like me who were going for space - since we were able to build sufficiently advanced units before the end of the game. Probably a bit harder to kill Humbaba if you're going for fast domination and the best units you have at the end of the game are knights and trebuchets ;)

To be honest, I forgot all about Humbaba

As I pursued a traditional culture from within the prison, I never did much exploration.

neil, I was disappointed that you didn't go for a harder Victory.

I think I'm going to go for diplomation.
So its the PH for me, at Monarch we wont need the fresh water health bonus.

Regarding not much exploration, PiousPete gets the Isolationist award. He didn't explore nor even trade for maps. Only knew around his "prison".

Regarding lack of food, I think all those Capital cities got most of it. :mischief:

Sorry, but I played this after the WOTM, in which my goal was the cow...... just wanted something quick.

Next game will be DOMINATION, promise :)

Thanks for the game and congrats to the winners. Unexpected RL issues prevented me from completing or even submitting an incomplete game.

I personally love huts, even if you don't get great things it is always exciting. :)

Note that given the choice, only 3 players chose to play without huts.

More accurately...

Given the choice, only 3 players chose to play without huts when knowing that the games they would be compairing against had them on.

I for one chose with huts here for that reason, but would rather play these competions without huts.

I don't think the figure has any statistical value.
Things would have probably been very different if the Contender save had had no huts and the Adventurer save had had huts.

I agree with jesusin here.

An even better test would be to ADD the Huts to the Challenger save with or without some normal Challenger difficulties thrown in of course.

I guess I kind of like the idea of huts removed from the starting area, with some more distant hut opportunities available that reward exploring fully. I believe this idea goes back to earlier days.
