The settings were a little unusual and I expected they would delay Domination and make Conquest much harder. Still, zamint3 got the bronze with a 560AD win, Jovan_Kukic took the gold in 760 AD and evil_spock the silver in 920 AD with Domination getting all three medals.
No one achieved a Conquest victory although Shulec gets the "I missed it by this much" award for his 51.42% Domination victory with 51% required on the turn of his Conquest - he was robbed.
This was the first BOTM since the Culture thru Espionage technique was publicized. Jesusin (1545) and neilmeister (1585) had impressive traditional culture victory dates. Kaitzilla demonstrated the date advantage of the Espionage approach with an 1130 AD culture victory (and WastinTime didn't finish a game which he thinks would have beaten 1100 AD). At some point in the future (I expect) we will have a separate award for the espionage victory,
but for now it counts as Cultural.
Mitchum had a fourth place score with his fastest Spaceship win (1675).
Only a few submissions achieved a Diplomatic victory (too many AIs?). We appreciate nocho disqualifying himself.
Only 1 Religious Victory (all those AIs made it less appealing?), congratulations to IvanTheFearsome.
My first map had Gilgamesh on a peninsula at the end and most of the AIs ended up in one religion. I moved him to the middle to give the players more choices and to split the religions.
Condolences to jnozzi and donsig who lost to AI culture. My next game will be easier (Noble). We really appreciate you submitting and encourage others who didn't have time to finish to submit their incomplete games in the future.
Here's where everyone settled.
The Small Print:
The numbers by each player's name indicate the turn settled on (starting turn is 0). Players are colour coded by game class (challenger=red, adventurer=blue). Symbols indicate victory condition, if there's no symbol then the player either retired or was defeated. The yellow border indicates the land that was visible at the start of the game.
I'm pleased that many remarked they enjoyed this game (including some that didn't submit). Here are the results:
