BOTM02: Native Americans

Game Details:

Game settings:
Civilization: Native Americans (Leader: Sitting Bull; Traits: Philosophical, Protective)
Rivals: 6 AIs
Difficulty: Monarch
Map: Pangea.
Mapsize: Standard
Climate: Rocky
Water level: Low
Starting Era: Ancient
Speed: Normal
Options: No barbarians, no tribal villages, require complete kills.
Victory Conditions: all enabled

Sitting Bull:
Sitting Bull is Philosophical and Protective; starting with fishing and agriculture. Philosophical doubles your great person points per turn and allows double production-speed of universities. Protective gives every archery or gunpowder unit free City Garrison 1 and Drill 1 promotions and allows double production speed of walls and castles.

Unique unit: Dog Soldier (replaces axeman)
The dog soldier has a lower basic strength of 4, as opposed to 5 for the axeman, but gets +100% instead of the normal +50% against melee units. Not only that but dog soldiers require no resources to build, you simply need knowledge of bronze working.

Unique building: Totem Pole (replaces monument)
Besides the usual monument ability to give +1 culture per turn, the totem pole gives +3 experience points to archery units built in the city.Combined with barracks and the protective trait, this can give you some very powerful archery units! The totem pole requires mysticism to build and goes obsolete with astronomy.

Adventurer Class bonuses:
 1. Scout: You have a scout (sharing a tile with the settler).
 2. Clever scout: Your scout has told you the secret of hunting (just as well really because if you didn't know hunting, how could you have a scout....?)

Challenger Class Equalisers:
 1. No techs You apparently don't know any techs. The warrior probably stole the knowledge from you, which may explain why ...
 2. No warrior ...the warrior has disappeared.

To Enter the Competition:

You can get the starting saves and submit your completed game here. You must submit your entry by 16 Feb 2008.

Civ version

This game MUST be played in Beyond the Sword (NOT Warlords or vanilla Civ), patched to version 3.13, available for Windows only, and with the HOF mod version 3.13.001 installed. You can download the HOF mod here.

While playing...

Remember - for your entry to be accepted, it MUST be your first attempt to play this game, and you MUST NOT replay any turns. If you make a mistake while playing, you have to live with it, learn from it, and carry on the game without replaying.

I am afraid that my first post at Civ Fanatics is a report of en error ;)
"The save file you selected is protected to ensure that the assets in your Mod Folder have not been changed."

I have patched Bts up to 3.13 and am using the Hof Mod 3.13.001.

Am I doing anything wrong?

Tally ho! The game is afoot. Good luck to everyone.

Same problem here.

I figured the cause of the problem might be that I have Bhruic's unofficial patch + the BUG mod installed, but disabling both did nothing to fix the problem. Any input on what can be done to fix it would be greatly appreciated.

When you say you "disabled them", how did you do that? You have to remove them entirely to avoid them affecting the asset checks that the game performs. Basically, your Assets folders (BtS, Warlords and vanilla), and your HoFMod folder have to be the same as those used to create the start file. Any missing, extra or modified files will cause the sum checks to fail.

I renamed the CustomAssets folder in the My Documents\My Games\... folder to CustomAssets_BUG to let the game create a new folder. But I guess there might be conflicting files located elsewhere that is causing the problem. Come to think of it, I've alse done some XML-editing - I changed the "Poison Water" spy mission to cause only 1 turn of unhealthiness. Could that be it?

I did say: "Any missing, extra or modified files will cause the sum checks to fail".

Have you run the HoF AssetChecker?

Some basic reasoning ought to answer that ;) We could hardly run a fair competition if players were allowed to alter the game rules for their own entries (eg. by changing the effect of spy missions) could we! Which of course is a very good reason why the game checks for any changes in your assets and XML files and refuses to load if there are any.

Understandable. I thought perhaps the HOF-mod would contain its own XML or something (for the reason stated above.) Think I'll just do a clean reinstall to ensure that everything will work smoothly.

EDIT: Changing the Poison Water spy mission back to the default 8 turns did the trick. Here we go!

Hello!

The terrible event have happened when I played this game: while see a replay Moderator Action: spoiler info deleted at the end of game I saw that it was a second time the initial save loaded... (i.e. session 2) The following investigation shows that my wife again loaded the start save and played a while the game before me (or at after I started but before finished).

So, there is a question:
Is it right that I should not submit the result of this game?

IIRC, my replay always says that my opening of the game is session 2 (or rarely session 3 or higher) ... which shocked me at first, but then I concluded that session 1 is the game author working on it, so I have assumed that all XOTM start at least on session 2.

The first session recorded in the save is the one created when the start file was saved by the staff (in this case that was me!). Sometimes there are more than one initial set-up sessions. So that in itself does not indicate a problem with your game.

If you *know* your wife played a session during your own play sequence, then your game *may* be invalid - it is always a bad idea for a second game to be started on the same computer, and worse still if it happens before the first attempt has completed.

I suggest you submit your game anyway, and we'll note this information for use during our review. Depending on whether we can verify your information, or give you the benefit of any doubt, we may be able to accept your submission. If we can't, we'll let you know.

For future reference, the normal channel for this sort of discussion is via PM or email to a member of the GOTM Staff. You should not post in the pre-game threads once you have started a game. I have deleted one piece of spoiler information from your post.

Sorry, I did not played GOTM for a while (started back with BOTMs), so I forgot about this thing... and did not noticed it while BOTM-1.   The reason why I was so upset is that this time I finally decided to play at hardest level.

Nothing to say exept "I'll remember that." And thanks for the support.
